Robert Edward Sigmann died last Thursday at Morristown Medical Center. He was 77.
Sigmann was a native of New York City. He also lived in Ridgewood, Queens, before moving to Parsippany 40 years ago.
He served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard until being honorably discharged in 1963.
Sigmann earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from City College of New York. He spent the next 34 years as a department manager for Scallop/Asiatic Petroleum in New York City. In 1986, at the age of 52, he retired.
He spent the last 25 years volunteering to help others and was a recipient of the Presidential Volunteer’s Award.
Among his efforts was sharing his accounting and tax preparation skills through the AARP. He taught safe driving courses for the senior advocacy and service organization as well.
Sigmann also spent time counseling seniors on health care programs to supplement Medicare.
In addition, he worked for Friends of the Library and helped at book sales, garage sales, or wherever he was needed.
Signmann was a member of St. Christopher RC Church and was an usher for many years at the church's 8 a.m. mass.
Survivors include wife Marie Louise Macey Sigmann, daughter Marie Louise Hamilton and her husband David Thomas of Ohio; sister Veronica Lichtenstein of Florida; and by four grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are through Par-Troy Funeral Home.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial to be offered on Monday, at 10 a.m. at St. Christopher RC Church, 1050 Littleton Road.
Entombment will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
