UPDATE: Bicyclist Injured at Smith Road I-80 Ramp

The victim was treated by and released from a local hospital.

Parsippany Police report a local man received only minor injuries after crashing his bicycle on Smith Road near the Interstate 80 bridge during Thursday's afternoon rush hour.

PPD spokesperson Sgt. Yvonne Christiano said officers responded after a report came in from a passing motorist of a "down bicyclist" on Smith Road shortly after 4 p.m.

Police found the man and his bike on the ground under the bridge. The victim, a 52-year-old Parsippany resident, was wearing a helmet, according to the accident report. He was taken to a local hospital where police said he was treated and released.

Police have not released the identity of the injured man.

At the time, police said they could not determine how the man crashed his bicycle, so Morris County Sheriff’s Department crash investigators came to the scene.

Also responding were Parsippany ambulance and paramedic squads.

Police said investigators determined that the man was not the victim of a hit-and-run, but lost control of the bicycle.
