Burglars Hit Home During Owner's Vacation, Say Cops

Police encourage homeowners to use its free House Watch service if they plan a trip away from home.

A woman checking on a vacationing neighbor's home on Linda Street found the building had been burglarized Saturday evening, say Parsippany Police.

According to a police statement, the woman said that she stopped by the house just before 6 p.m. and found the front door had been forced open and the upstairs bedrooms ransacked.

Parsippany Rescue and Recovery secured the home's broken door, said department spokesperson Sgt. Yvonne Christiano.

Parsippany detectives are investigating the incident, she said, adding that the Morris County Criminal Investigative Division assisted in processing the crime scene.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police at 973-263-4300.

Christiano said township residents are encouraged to use the PPD's free House Watch program if they are planning to be away from home. Information is available on the Parsippany Police Department website under the “Safety and Prevention” tab.
