Church to Help Homeowners Go Solar at No Cost

An interfaith environmental coalition presents an event designed to promote green living and to save homeowners money.

For many homeowners, the prospect of using solar energy simply isn't possible because the costs are so high. in Parsippany will host an event Sunday to present an alternative.

GreenFaith, a multi-church coalition dedicated to environmental issues, and the company AP Solar will give homeowners an oopportunity to go solar at no cost.

The event offers homeowners a chance to be screened for a zero-cost solar installation that would provide them with discounted electricity.

“We’re excited to host this event and invite all members of the community to join us to see if their roof is suitable for solar,” said the Rev. Susan Sica, St, Gregory's vicar.

At the screening event, a monitor will be set up that enables interested homeowners to have satellite photos of their homes evaluated to see if their roof appears to be suitable for solar.

“It’s an enjoyable, interesting way to learn about solar power,” said the Rev. Fletcher Harper, executive director of GreenFaith. “We’re eager to work with faith-based sites around New Jersey to identify homeowners whose home qualifies for this great opportunity.”

For every home that successfully goes solar through the event and related online registration, GreenFaith and AP Solar will make a  $200 contribution to St. Gregory's Church.

“We believe in giving back to the community,” said AP Solar CEO John Hooper.  “We believe in solar power, and in the importance of the faith community.”

Rev. Sica said that any contribution to St. Gregory's is beside the point.

"We would support this 'green' effort whether or not we were the beneficiaries," she told Patch.

This program is open to all New Jersey homeowners and the public is invited to attend.

The screening event will be held Sunday from noon to 2 p.m.
