Par-Troy Christian faith communities' Easter worship plans
After 40 long days of Lent, Holy Week is here and Easter arrives bright and early on Sunday. Christian houses of worship will host a variety of services and events to mark the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.
A list follows:
Saint Christopher Church, at 1050 Littleton Road, presents many opportunities to celebrate the holiday. At 3 p.m. on Good Friday, the church holds its Passion of the Lord Service. Later Friday evening, check out St. Christopher's 14th annual Living Stations of the Cross at 7 p.m. On Holy Saturday, Blessing of the Food takes place at 11:30 a.m. and the Easter Vigil begins at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday masses will be offered at 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. For more information, call the church at 973-539-7050.
St. Gregory's Episcopal Church, 480 S. Beverwyck Road, has a full schedule. On Good Friday at 1 p.m., St. Gregory's is the site for an ecumenical liturgy with Parsippany United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church, preceded at noon by a mile-long procession to recreate Jesus's Passion Walk. Later Friday, at 7:30 p.m., the Episcopal church offers a traditional Good Friday Eucharist. For Holy Saturday, there is a liturgy at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m., the church begins the greening of the church and the Polish Easter tradition of the Blessing of the Baskets. At Parsippany Christian Church, 205 Vail Road, Good Friday services are held at 7 p.m. The Easter service takes place Sunday at 10:45 a.m. Call 973-335-7176 for details.
St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 335 Reynolds Ave., offers Easter services Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and at 10:45 a.m. More info is available at 973-887-6713.
Parsippany Presbyterian Church, 1675 Route 46, presents Good Friday services Friday at 8 p.m. On Easter Sunday, an early worship service will be held in the PPC Meadow at 8 a.m. Easter Brunch is offered in the Fellowship Hall at 9 a.m. And the 10 a.m. Easter service is followed by the church's annual Egg Hunt in the Manse Gardens. Chinese Christian Church of New Jersey, 232 S. Beverwyck Road, offers Good Friday services and Communion at 8 p.m. Friday. An Easter Sunrise Service takes place 7:30 a.m. Sunday. The church notes that all are invited to celebrate Christ's Resurrection at dawn. After the service, a special breakfast prepared by the youth group will be served. Get details at 973-335-0183

United Methodist Church of Parsippany, 903 S. Beverwyck Road, presents a performance of an original production of the Passion Story of Jesus as recorded in chapters 26 and 27 of Matthew’s Gospel. Performance with worship takes place Good Friday at 7:30 p.m. A Good Friday service without the passion play takes place at 1:30 p.m. Sanctuary decoration is underway Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The Easter service will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. St. Peter the Apostle Church, 179 Baldwin Road, presents a lot of activity on Good Friday: At 9 a.m., the church holds a morning prayer service; Living Stations take place at noon; at 3 p.m., the Good Friday liturgy. On Holy Saturday, morning prayer is at 9 a.m., at 10:30 a.m. the Blessing of Easter Food takes place, and the Easter vigil starts at 8 p.m. (Regular Saturday masses at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. will resume the following week.) On Easter, masses will be held at 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m., with a liturgy in Spanish at 2:30 p.m. Find details at 973-334-2090.
