Cops: Door Smashed, Jewelry and Cash Taken

Parsippany Police and a county K-9 unit were unsuccessful in search for intruder.

A sliding glass door was smashed and cash and jewelry were stolen from a Dogwood Lane home last Friday night, Parsippany Police said Thursday.

The home's burglary alarm was activated, but when Sgt. Paul Schulze and Officer James Schicke arrived at the scene at about 9 p.m., there was no one inside the residence, police said.

Police established a perimeter around the area with assistance from the Morris County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit. The police dog was able to track the scent of an individual through the backyard of the Dogwood Lane home to Woodcrest Road, but then lost the scent, police said. The intruder likely entered a vehicle at that location, police said.

A similar incident was reported on April 30 when a Lake Shore Drive residence's rear sliding door was smashed, but nothing of value was reported missing from the home, police said.

Officers inside the burglarized home last week found the master bedroom and closet ransacked.

The homeowner told police that some jewelry and approximately $5,000 in cash were missing from the bedroom.

The incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crime should call the Parsippany Police Department at 973-263-4300.

Just curious, what was the timeline (in minutes) between alarm activation, notification to police, and arrival time? Was there central station monitoring on this alarm system?

I probably imagine the police showing up a couple of hours later. Police do not regard burglar alarms on the top of their priorities due to a large number of false alarms. So I wouldn't be surprised if they took their time to get there!

I recently wrote an article that might be helpful to readers on how to better protect their home from a burglar:
