Jersey City Man Cited in I-80 Ramp Collision

Police say a failure to yield caused two-vehicle collision.

A Jersey City man was issued a summons for failing to yield, causing a two-vehicle collision at the Smith Road on-ramp to Interstate 80, Parsippany Police said.

A 2008 Ford Escape was traveling northbound on Smith Road near the I-80 East on-ramp at about 7:15 p.m., according to police spokesperson Ptlm. Earl Kinsey.

Kinsey said a second vehicle, a 2010 Honda Crossfit, driven by Sahil Zafar, 52, was traveling south on Smith Road and made a left turn toward the ramp entrance in front of the first car, the Ford Escape.

"Vehicle No. 1, without the time to stop or swerve, struck [Zafar's car] on the passenger side of the vehicle," he said.

Officer Matthew LaManna investigated the crash and issued Zafar a summons for failure to yield, said police.

Kinsey said Parsippany Volunteer Ambulance responded to the scene, adding that the vehicles' occupants refused medical attention.
