There are so many houses on the market in the Mt. Tabor secion of Parsippany and nothing is selling. A real estate person told me, to the best of their knowledge, only one sold over the summer and a lot have been taken off the market due to a lack of interest by buyers.
I wonder if the Mt. Tabor Historic District that's being created has anything to do with the lack of buyers? Very few people want to be told how they have to maintain their home by a local historic preservation commission. Mt. Tabor is a hard sell anyway - with the lack of parking, the assocation fees, land leases, small houses and lots, rundown road condidtions, etc. Put a historic district, and its added expenses, on top of that and it makes owning a house in Mt. Tabor extremely undesireable.

Do you see how nasty people like "On the Top" can be? They're obsessed with historical folly to the point that they have to tell everyone how to live their lives. These kinds of people will ruin Mt. Tabor and cause housing values to take a nose dive. If you read between the lines of "On the Top's" comments, you can see they don't want anyone in Mt. Tabor who doesn't agree with their misguided historic-district agenda.

So you can't provide a list of sold houses in Mt. Tabor. It's OK, you can admit it.
The one the realtor pointed to that sold was at the corner of Simpson and Whitfield. To be exact, 39 Simpson Avenue, Block 51, Lot 04.
I hope the buyers were told by the association, the seller and the seller's agent that there could be a historic district in Mt. Tabor in the future.

The people in Mt. Tabor were told lies concerning the proposed historic district. The people in Mt. Tabor were told lies concerning the proposed historic district. They were told everyone is going to get "free money" from county government to maintain their houses. That's an outright, bold-face lie. They were told they could get tax breaks. That's a lie too. They were told the association is going to get "free money" from the county to repair and maintain its buildings. Another gigantic lie. Anyone can go on the Morris County Historic Preservation website and read the rules and regulations concerning historic grants, as follows: http://www.morrispreservation.org/TrustFundRulesRegs.pdf
The historic district proposal in Mt. Tabor involves 8 people lying to and bullying all the rest of the people in Mt. Tabor - the other 343 families. This historic district plan isn't about history or historic preservation. It's about a handful of misguided individuals attempting to gain power and control over the lives of the homeowners of Mt. Tabor.

The Mt. Tabor Historical Society producted a 15-page Pdf concerning the historic district in Mt. Tabor. This is what it said on page 8:
"• Gives the CMA, Historical Society and private property
owners access to County, State & Federal Grant money
to appropriately repair and/or replicate our historic
buildings."
"• Grants are not loans. They never need to be paid back!
Therefore, any repairs made to our heritage buildings
that use grant money is not passed on to you through
increased lot assessments."
"•The CMA, Historical Society or YOU cannot access
any of this FREE MONEY (and tax incentives!!) unless
you have a historic designation on the property first."
None of it is true. There's no "FREE MONEY" for the association or any homeowner in Mt. Tabor. You, the Mt. Tabor homeowner, are being misled by a small group of people who don't have your best interest at heart.

Have you noticed that Patch user "On the Top" appears to have removed their posts under this topic?

#1 completely true, unfortunately for private owners- it only applies to investment properties currently - that is a statehouse issue that is still currently in limbo and should it pass, will expand grant access/tax credits to all homeowners of historic properties.
#2 so true. Do you not know what a grant is? The CMA can make their own decisions to take it or not. No one is forcing their hand.
#3 still true -all 3 entities mentioned could obtain these grants with due diligence and research. Morris County is not the only grant giving organization for historic properties.
There are far more people that care about their community than you give them credit for. Why don't you use your needless anger and actually do something positive for a change instead of posting your endless complaints in Patch about the place you reside.

* There are no tax credits for homeowners of historic properties.
* http://www.morrispreservation.org/TrustFundRulesRegs.pdf The camp meeting association (cma) is not a 501c3 charitable organization and cannot get grants from Morris County. The cma had its 501c3 status revoked by the IRS on June 16, 2008, http://www.irs.gov/Charities-&-Non-Profits/Charitable-Organizations/Recent-Revocations-of-501(c)(3)-Determinations----Organizations-C-E
The cma falsely claimed to the IRS to be "Recreational and Sporting Camps (Day, Overnight, etc.)" - NTEE Code N20. The cma is not going to get another IRS 501c3 designation and may find it difficult to keep its current 501c4 designation.
* Name all of the potential grants for the cma and the homeowners of Mt. Tabor.
You'd better watch your step. You might be walking on thin ice. There's a fine line between telling lies and fraud.

Patch user "On the Top" deleted most of their previous posts under this heading.
However, On the Top wrote at 10:11 pm on Sunday, September 2, 2012: "The association (Camp Meeting Association of the Newark Conferenceof the Methodist Episcopal Church - CMA) was presented with the information and opportunity to form their OWN 501c3 entity that they control in order to fulfill certain grant criteria and they sat on their hands. So they could have received "free money" for the upkeep and repair of their historic properties..."
I doubt the association (CMA) is going to be any kind of 501c3 ever again in light of the fact that the cma lied to the IRS and got its 501c3 status revoked.

Regarding your deleted "On the Top". If someone told you that they didn't like your clothes, color or style of your hair and you would have to change it to what they liked, how would you feel? My husband and I have lived here for 24 years raising our children. Regarding your removed statement about enclosed porches that are filled with stuff! Do you have a garage, attic, basement, backyard or driveway? Many of us don't have some or any of these. Do you have kids (and all their stuff)?
