Most Dangerous Main Road in Parsippany [POLL]
Tell us what you think the most dangerous main thoroughfare in the township is and why.
A road does not have to be slippery to seem dangerous to some drivers and even with warmer weather on the horizon, some of the main roads in the borough may not seem as safe as others.
Recently, a report has designated Route 46 as the most dangerous road in Morris County. Now we want to know what you think is the most dangerous main road in Parsippany.
Participate in our poll below and let us know in the comments why you think that road is dangerous.
Also share with us the smaller streets you tend to not feel as safe driving on and why.

They are all dangerous; not designed for people who may wish to walk. Too many people in a hurry, too many cell phone, text freaks. Many driver only look one way when turning into thoroughfares like walkers don't exist..

Yeah, 46 is not a road that is designed for people to walk, yet, there are bus stops over .5 miles with no parking area's around them (nevertheless sidewalks). How are people supposed to get to the bus stops? They walk to them.

I'm not sure where these bus stops are that folks can't walk to. They're all adjacent to parking lots with traffic lights. The problem is that the pedestrians don't observe the same rules of the road that they use when they're at work in NYC.
If they tried to cross Broadway in NYC the same way they cross Rt. 46, they wouldn't be making it home.

One stop is the stop at Vail/46. People are always trying to cross the street at that light. Between cars trying to make the lefts on to Vail and rt 46 traffic trying to go straight and the people trying to cross the road, it makes for a dangerous situation.
I mean, I drive, but if I had to take the bus, I would do everything in my power to NOT take the bus. Every day, I see people dodging cars and walking on the side of the road just to get to a bus stop.
And, Will. All bus stops people can walk to. But the problem is, is that there are no sidewalks or safe ways for them to get to the bus stop.

There are traffic lights and sidewalks there. There are no right turns on red allowed. The problem lies in the pedestrians not following the signals.

..so hard to choose. Route 80, with the lane that ends so quickly and the permanent construction barriers, Route 10 with terrible congestion and the concrete barriers of death, and 287 south from Parsippany (which quickly branches off to Route 10 and, in normal traffic conditions, it's difficult, if not impossible to exit in time).
A few other death traps - joggers on Knoll Rd near the water treatment center. There's no side of the road and no sidewalk, but people persist despite a series of blind curves and a deer population which already keeps drivers on their toes (I've even seen people pushing strollers, bad decision-making there). And the "improvement" to North Beverwyck at the intersection of Vail Rd, whereupon someone decided to create a new lane and eliminate the shoulder entirely - no sidewalks, so, yet, another place I've seen people push baby carriages.
If a mayoral candidate comes out with a platform that says, "I will create more sidewalks and fix existing sidewalks that are broken or make no sense," that will be the candidate for me.

It may not be the most dangerous, but how about most annoying. I feel the Smith Road/Rt 46 intersection is the worst. Whoever designed that intersection should be fired. I have to go through one light, just to sit in another. And then go through that light, just to sit in another light.
Why couldn't it just be a simple T-interchange with one set of light with left turning lanes. Its either always so backed up over there and cars are stuck in the middle of the intersection, or you have to sit at the lights(3) and wait like forever just to get through the intersection.

But the most dangerous is def either 46, rt 10 and Rt. 80/287 with all the construction.
And what the heck are they doing with all the construction? I never see anyone working. Whether it be early in the morning, during the day, late at night, I never see anyone actually working, nor do I see any progress either.

I wonder about that, too. Did someone forget they diverted traffic and leave the barrier? There was that whole news story about how the mayor called the SLAP program to clean up. Here's another phone call worthy of good press. Come back to Parsippany and finish the job!

Why is something that could be documented with Police reports and statistics from the towns 3 EMS agencies being given up for opinion?
This is silly, get the facts, report the facts.

Because this is a news *and community* site. We like to encourage discussion among neighbors. That may not be your cup of chai, but mileage varies in this great town and nation.

I happen to believe it's a very interesting article. I agreee the one by route 46 and Smith is pretty dangerous when people are trying to walk.

Route 46 is bad with their so called repaired speed bumps, they tried to fix them but only made it worse, just repave the dang thing. Route 287 is very bad with all the construction and switching lanes and holes its a mess, and accident looking for a place to happen.

Littleton Road is definitely the most clogged, especially in rush hour. Lane changes and alterations are making Route 80 a mess. Parsippany Road is impossible to cross except at traffic lights. Allentown Road, used as a cut-through from Littleton Road to Parsippany Road has many stop signs that may or may not be ignored by cross traffic. Baldwin Road jug-handle cannot accommodate turning traffic.

It also depends on who's driving!

Personally, I think the entire stretch of 46 from Vail eastward is a disaster. Every morning I drive Baldwin Road, left onto 46 east to Edwards road, and every morning, i see people running red lights, talking on their cell phones and cutting off other drivers to get to the 80 on-ramp, the U turn by the Holiday Inn, pulling out of the shopping centers. Its mayhem! Now, lest we forget, the commuters in the evening who dart across the highways with zero regard. They just get off the bus and walk right into traffic, some of them casually strolling, paying no attention while yapping on a cell phone. however, if they got hit, is it the DRIVERS fault? I can tell you for sure, while driving on 46 West there was a cop in the commuter lot at Beverywyck and 46. 2 cars blatantly ran the red light.. and the cop didn't even MOVE.

the corner of roosevelt and lakeshore in hiawatha its a rare occasion in the morning that drivers actually stop at the stop sign and will pull out in front of you like you arent even there as they are in a rush to get their kids to school. the next stop the light at lakeshore and n. beverwyck, by 7-11, a woman was hit crossing the road there a few years back, people jay walk and drivers have no regard for the walk signs that tell people to walk they come right at you and some drivers do not believe you have the right of way when making a turn on your side and will come straight at you and cut you off ive had so many near misses and almost been creamed on those corners. those are two spots that are notorius every day for this crap yet we never seem to see police at these points i wonder why?
