Basement Fire Extends Into 1st Floor, Authorities Say

No injuries resulted from Tuesday blaze, which is under investigation.

A small basement fire extended into the first floor of an Exeter Street home on Tuesday afternoon, according to Assistant Chief David Hollner of the Mt. Tabor Volunteer Fire District 1.

Hollner said the blaze was extinguished quickly by responders.

"There is minor structural damage, but no injuries," he said. "I doubt the residents will be back in the house tonight."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, said Hollner.

District 1 was the primary company on the scene, but received support from Lake Parsippany Fire District 3 and Parsippany-Troy Hills Fire Association District 6 and fire companies from Whippany and Cedar Knolls. Parsippany Police also responded to the scene, as well as Par-Troy EMS and Parsippany Volunteer Ambulance as a precautionary measure.
