Parsippany Cups Grand Opening Draws a Huge, Hungry Crowd

Cups Frozen Yogurt is offering grand opening prizes through Memorial Day weekend.

Hundreds of people braved the pouring rain Thursday to get a taste of the new Cups franchise that opened up in the Troy-Hills Shopping Center in Parsippany.

Cups, located at 1123 Route 46 in Parsippany, opened its doors at 4 p.m. Thursday and served free frozen yogurt between 4 and 7 p.m. as a promotion.

“The only line that's been this long for their grand opening was in Clifton, which has been very successful,” said Karen Abrams, who co-owns the frozen yogurt shop with Lisa Trachtenberg, both from Wayne.

Despite on and off downpours, the line for Cups was at least 75 people deep for the duration of their free promotion.

“We were driving around and saw it was open,” said patron Alek Grinvalds, 18, of Parsippany. “I've been to the Cups in East Hanover. I think it's great, I love Cups.”

Further down the line, Parsippany High Marching Band students Christine Padula, Jean Marsicovete and Brendan Laux decided to get a cold treat after practice.

“I like Cups and I think the self-serve is a cool, modern idea,” said Padula.

Cups features an assortment of frozen yogurt flavors that can be mixed and combined to the tastes of the customer. Patrons need only choose their cup size and fill it from the self-serve machines. After choosing flavors and toppings their concoction is then weighed by a cups employee who charges 49 cents per ounce.

“The most popular flavors are Peanut Butter, Eurotart, Cookies and Cream and Cake Batter,” said 19-year old Cups girl Izabela Grochowska, who worked at the East Hanover Cups for more than a year.

Customers love Cups because they can create anything they want, she added.

Cups in Parsippany is also the only store in the franchise to provide a private room in the back for themed parties.

Throughout Memorial Day weekend Cups is celebrating its grand opening with free scratch-offs to give their new customers a chance to win prizes.

“Every one is a winner,” said Abrams. “We have beach balls, towels and other prizes and one lucky person will win free frozen yogurt for a year.”

Cups is a young and hip new place with a club-theme and assortment of flavors to get just about anyones' taste buds tingling.

Cups of Parsippany, at 1123 Route 46, is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.
