Parsippany Schools to Remain Closed Tuesday

This is the seventh straight school day lost to Superstorm Sandy.

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education announced Monday afternoon that schools will be closed again Tuesday.

The school system has been shut down for more than a week due to Superstorm Sandy.

An added issues is Election Day–many schools will serve as polling places Tuesday.

The storm caused serious damage to the roof at Lake Hiawatha Elementary School, and power issues remain at some schools.

Additionally, some areas of town still have issues surrounding downed wires and trees, making transportation an issue.

@Concerned Parent: According to Parsippany's website www.parsippany.net, today's noon update from the Mayor says "Halloween has been postponed until a later date. That date will be announced in the near future. There are still many trees and wires down in the area that can become energized without warning as power is restored. The safety of our children and citizens is always our number one priority."

Ok now that school has been cancelled for a 7th day it is time for Mayor Barberio and Board President Calabria, as our elected officials, to step forward and talk to Parsippany residents and provide us with some direct answers. Stop hiding behind robo calls and rarely changing web site updates and give us a sense of what is going on and how long you expect wires to be down and roads to be blocked. We understand that you can only provide your best estimate but that information will allow us to plan accordingly. Patch is an extrordinarily valuable communication tool and one that has become a trusted source of information throughout Parsippany . How about speaking with Natalie on a daily basis so that she can share your thoughts with us?. How about taking a page out of Govenor Christie's play book and spend time talking to your constituents. How about some visibility and how about some leadership?

How about Jcpl telling us when and exactly where they are working. Water pumping issues, schools without power. There has to be something majorly wrong and the town officials must know what it is. Give us some detailed info. Why are parts of town up snx running and others are not.

Mayor Barberio- a daily update on Patch is an excellent idea. If you would provide whatever info you have to the residents, it would go a long way in helping us cope with this disaster and perhaps set a precedent for the flow of information during future events of this nature.

Last heard was 5 schools without power. Can't start schools on different schedules. There are plenty of days to give back to get on schedule. A day here and a day there and then take away spring vacation. Then when those days are used up it's Saturdays to school.

Unfortunately for the kids Halloween needs to be forgotten this year. I may not have power in my home but there are many families in NJ without a home right now. These are the hard working Middle Class who don't qualified for FEMA aid. Donate to your local food banks. Thanksgiving is around the corner.
