Charged With Attempted Murder, Man Takes Plea Deal

Belleville resident accused of stabbed another man approximately 14 times to get one year in jail and anger management therapy.

A Belleville resident facing charges of first-degree attempted murder and other offenses after stabbing another man 14 times in a Lake Hiawatha apartment in February agreed to a plea bargain with the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Monday.

Angelo Corino, 61, appeared at the Morristown Courthouse Monday. He faces sentencing in August, according to Capt. Jeffrey Paul, a spokesman for Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi.

Corino pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the prosecutor's office said.

According to the prosecutor's office, in exchange for the plea agreement, Corino must meet three requirements:

  1. 364 days in the Morris County Correctional Facility
  2. the successful completion of anger management, or a like course
  3. the payment of restitution to the victim for out-of-pocket medical bills.

Corino was originally charged with first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, burglary and simple assault.

He was held on $500,000 cash bail.

The case stems from a February incident in Lake Hiawatha. Corino was accused of stabbing the victim approximately 14 times. The victim spent 11 days at Morristown Medical Center, the prosecutor's office said. A portion of that time, the injured man was in intensive care, the prosecutor's office said.

Corino will be sentenced Aug. 3 in the courtroom of Superior Court Judge Stuart Minkowitz.

i don't think the punishment was enough. Anyone who needs to stab someone 17 times need much more than an anger management program. What did the plea deal solve? The cops couldn't figure out if he did it or not? How is he going to pay the victim back? I sure wouldnt want someone who stabbed someone 17 times working for me or with me. Something sounds like something fishy is going on and this definitely should be investigated by some higher court.

What did the plea deal solve ? Good question... doesn't that reduce it from a felony to a misdemeanor ? (I.e. less than one year's jail time.) So it becomes a slap on the wrist.

Sounds like someone is very well-connected indeed.
