Argument Outside Bar Ends in Arrest, Police Say

Authorities charge Denville man with DWI and possessing drugs not prescribed to him.

A heated exchange between two men in the parking lot of Hoover's Tavern on Aug. 12 resulted in a Denville man being arrested for driving while intoxicated, according to Parsippany Police.

Police said that while he was on patrol on Route 53 just before midnight, Officer Michael Sprung saw two men who appeared to be yelling at each other in a parked vehicle in the rear lot of the Sylvan Way bar.

Sprung turned his patrol car around and spotted the same vehicle in the lot of a nearby 7-Eleven, police said.

The policeman then spoke with the driver, who was identified as 40-year-old Kirk Kolbjornsen of Denville, who was found in possession of prescription medication not prescribed to him, police said.

Police said Kolbjornsen was arrested for DWI and issued summonses for DWI and careless driving. He also was charged with possession of a prescription legend without lawful prescription, according to police.

The man was released on his own recognizance pending a court date, police said.

If the state would force this man to put purple "I'm a Bad Boy" stickers on his license plates, he probably wouldn't drive stoned in the future.

Such forms of public humiliation are best kept for innocent 16 and 17 year olds.
