Mayor Names Police Chief New OEM Coordinator
Former coordinator Eric Hubner will become the deputy.
Parsippany's Office of Emergency Management has a new leader.
According to Mayor James Barberio, Parsippany Police Chief Anthony DeZenzo has been appointed the new OEM coordinator, effective Thursday.
The previous coordinator, Eric Hubner, now will serve as deputy coordinator.
Barberio said the change is no reflection on Hubner.
"The nature and frequency of emergencies throughout the township has necessitated the position to be filled on a full-time basis," Barberio said in an emailed statement. "Chief DeZenzo has over 30 years of police service to the township and has served as an Office of Emergency Management Deputy Coordinator."
DeZenzo congratulated Hubner for the job he has done so far.
"His hard work brought us to the level where we are now," the chief said. "Now we are going to move to the next level."
DeZenzo also noted that an increasing number of towns are placing their police chiefs as OEM coordinators.
The mayor said DeZenzo plans to meet with the heads of Parsippany's emergency services.
"[He] looks forward to improving the cooperative effort shared by all services and maintaining a strong working relationship that will continue to provide the best response to emergencies that occur throughout Parsippany," Barberio said.
Hubner declined to make a comment.
It was not immediately known if DeZenzo would be receiving a pay increase.

Eric Hubner served this town faithfully during last year's weather emergencies - and has done so for a long time. The town is fortunate to have him in its service whether it be as Coordinator or Deputy Coordinator. A tip of the cap to Eric!

Wow, how does the police chief have time to hold 2 positions? Is he paid for 2 jobs now, and he will add to his pension from both jobs? What is his current salary as police chief and how much will this position pay?

This really smells bad.How much more will it cost the taxpayers of the town? In an emergency which hat will he wear? Definitely a power grab and a money drain.

Hopefully now the oem office will be ran the right way with the emergency services more involved and hopefully the haz mat end town has a fire dept with a haz-mat team which has not been used to the towns benefit instead oem would send out one guy to take care of it all but that's the way hubner wanted it hopefully things will change with tony as the new head person of oem
