Police Investigate 6th Recent Stolen-Tire Case
Authorities want to know who is taking wheels off of parked cars in Parsippany.
The Parsippany Police Department is investigating a sixth recent case involving tires stolen off of a parked vehicle.
Police said the most recent report was called in Sunday at around 10 a.m. Officer William Stone responded to the parking lot of the Colonial Heights apartment complex to investigate a report of wheels stolen off of a 2012 Honda Accord.
The vehicle's owner told the office that the car was discovered sitting on top of three landscaping blocks, police said.
The value of the missing tires is said to be approximately $4,000.
Authorities believe the incident occurred sometime after 8 p.m. Saturday.
Local law enforcement is looking into five similar cases, the most recent of which took place March 22 at the Cedar Brook Condominium complex on Route 10. Two other incidents involving Honda or Acura vehicles left in residential parking areas were reported at the Mountain Club on Route 10 and two others occurred at Westgate Apartments on Parsippany Road, police said.
Department spokesperson Ptlm. Earl Kinsey said there is a demand on the black market for Honda and Acura wheels, whose "rims retail at about $400 per wheel plus the cost of tires."
Anyone with information regarding any of these investigations is encouraged to call Det. Joseph Puso of the Parsippany Police Investigative Division at 973-263-4300.
