fortunately, in this country you don't have the right to not be offended. in any event, how is there no coverage whatsoever, here or otherwise, on a story involving a gun and a minor?

Prayers for the injured, the family and all the friends of both who are all suffering at this time. I hope everyone recovers and can in time heal from this.

Unfortunately PeoplesChamp is correct. This is a terrible tragedy and a time that prayers need to go out to this child and his family. But I will say...as a parent I know some of you were annoyed at ptown's choice of words.. but the message can't be dismissed.

We live in an age of instant information. Just 20 years ago, we had to wait 20 minutes for the weather report. Now, you can get weather on demand. Cable news made immediacy more important than accuracy. Sometimes, a pause is a good thing. Right now, there is a local family that has to deal with a sad, private situation that became public because the police were called. This family did not invite the public into its home, but some think nothing of inviting themselves in and asking questions they would not want asked of their own families if they were in crisis. Now is the time for prayers and good wishes - not indictments or snap judgments.

The message that Natalie Betz left on parents phones yesterday was unprofessional and vague. I happen to be a parent of a student in Parsippany High School as soon as I heard the message I went into panic mode and desperately tried to contact my daughter from work. Her mother was also trying to get in touch with her because she received the same message. Meantime the school was not taking any calls. Lucky my daughter called me back which was a sigh of relief. What kid did to himself was sad, luckily he is still alive. Hopefully someone is able to get through to him in order to help.

I dont get it. What matters to all of you? The situation or the outcome? Whether he got hit by a truck or struck by lightning or anything else; all that matters is that he recovers and the family recovers emotionally. Forget what went wrong it happened and none of that matters. All that matters is that your prayers are with him to recover. And if you don't believe in god that you hope he recovers out of respect. This is nobodies fault and is not the time for accusations. For all you know this is a family who has sacrificed for your children anonymously. God be with them and the youth.

PHS... the problem here is that a youth is seriously hurt and it has peaked the publics interest as to the how and why of the incident. Nobody has stated that they didn't want him to recover.. it has been quite the contrary.. but you can not stop public interest when a minor is hurt.
Johnny... I agree with you. I received the same call and my stomach dropped until I had heard back from my son.
Todd... you're correct, however when a minor is hurt through what potentially could be considered negligence.. it gets attacked. Wouldn't be any different than if a drunk driver seriously hurt a minor. The public wouldn't give the drunk driver any leeway for his or her negligence...would you?

I don't think anyone said anything inappropriate about the family. People, you need to relax. If the person who wrote this story could not provide more information, then what is the point in writing it. It should have never been written. Someone always wants to have an argument. Paul Brown did not saying anything wrong, except his comment "...they must have went to school in Parsippany" was unecessary.

Praise God. He does hear our prayers. "patient" is doing better. My daughter, a very good friend of the injured, has barely eaten for 3 days. Thank you God for hearing our prayers. Continue the healing.

I can understand the police and press not mentioning the families names, but why not give any details about the incident?

There is so little information in this story that Patch shouldn't have wasted their time printing it.
