A Belleville man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing another man approximately 14 times in a Lake Hiawatha apartment on Wednesday.
Angelo Corino, 61, of Belleville, has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, burglary and simple assault.
According to a statement released Thursday by Capt. Jeffrey Paul, a spokesman for Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi, Parsippany police responded to a 911 call on Wednesday at about 3:15 p.m., and found a man stabbed multiple times throughout his body inside a Lake Hiawatha apartment.
According to an affidavit on file with the Morris County Court, the victim was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment, and he remains in intensive care.
According to the affidavit, a woman called 911 after Corino allegedly forced his way into the apartment she was moving into. Corino then allegedly pushed the victim, who was helping the woman move, and jumped on top of him, the affidavit said.
The affidavit also states the woman said she tried to get Corino off the victim multiple times, and that following the alleged stabbing he struck her several times in the face.
Corino allegedly used a folding buck knife to stab the victim, according to the affidavit.
Corino was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility, where he was held on $500,000 cash bail.
