Maybe it's because they're gay bashing?

Came here to say this. With their anti-LGBT along with their refusal to take donations from any largely secular/atheist organizations they're campaign of hate is hitting them right where it hurts - in their wallet. We're not worried, Salvation Army, there are plenty of other organizations that do what you do without all the intolerance, bigotry,and religious crap. I look forward to your organization's future irrelevance and ultimate demise.

I wasn't even going to mention the proselytizing to defenseless victims. Do the bell-ringers even know what they're representing?

A fine example of holiday cheer...do either of you take the time to volunteer and improve your community or do you just hide behind the vail of your computer screen and mock the efforts of those trying to make a difference?

Actually, I choose to contribute and work with organizations like American Friends Service Committee and others which have no aim to convert or proselytize in spite of their religious orientation, and Global Fund for Women, which is a secular organization working on women's rights. I'd rather choose a fund because I adhere to its causes rather than because it's at the door of the grocery store and stands against much of what I feel strongly about.

Not sure how the organizations I prefer are haters, over those who are openly biased against homosexuals and non-Christians. If that is your preference, so be it. Then admit that you are the "hater", not us.

I always wonder if the people ringing the bells for the SA, truly know what the SA represents. I feel bad not donating, but I could never contribute to people who want to use my hard earned money to try and take away rights from those who deserve it!

I support the Salvation Army because it retains decent, wholesome values. The Salvation Army is a church headquartered in London, England that has many charitable activities.

I recommend donating to the Salvation Army. Very little goes to administrative expenses. Most of its donated resources is used to help those in need. I make a donation every year and also put cash in the red buckets around Christmas time.

Let me see.....some of you people think gay and lesbian perversion is good and the Salvation Army's charitable efforts are bad. That's the kind of twisted, evil thinking that makes someone believe it's OK to murder 26 people in an elementary school.

Did you know that when you people who choose the LGBT lifestyle bash the Salvation Army, they actually get more in donations?

The Salvation Army gives almost all of what they receive back to the community. I have never head about the gay and lesbian bashing, and if it is so I do not think that is right. However, there are very few charities that give back almost everything they receive. Merry Christmas to all and let us all give to whatever charity we believe does the best for the community as we all need help..

@kenny J...actually, I am the chairman of the advisory council for the Morristown Salvation Army...and am involved with a number of organizations as well. Perhaps it would be helpful for you tounderstand that the local chapter runs a day care center for 80+ under priveleged children that affords them 3 meals a day, education and the opportunity to be in a safe environment. They also sponsor after school programs for teens to socialize, do homework, mentor young children, etc... Over 400 Morris County families had Thanksgiving meals provided by the Salvation Army this year and we organize an Angel Tree program designed to insure children have Christmas who otherwise would not.

Gary - that's great and something you should be proud of but why don't you speak out against voices like Clyde's which claim to represent you in such a vile, reprehensible and offensive manner?

Clyde talks about the gay and lesbian "lifestyle choice"? I wonder when Clyde chose his assumed "heterosexual lifestyle choice"? I bet he can't tell us...why...because noone chooses his or her sexual orientation. Time and again we hear of politicians and religious leaders villifying gays and lesbians on a regular basis. It often becomes clear that those who scream the loudest are hiding their own sexual orientation issues...denying who they really are sexually. A quote from Shakepear's play Hamlet seems to provide an answer in regard to the negative comments, ignorance and hate from Clyde and his like about being gay: To quote...."I think the lady doth protest too much methinks"!”

I recently donated to the Salvation Army Newark branch and had a futon and an oversized chair - both in good condition and cllean but they wouldn't take them because they were more than 3 years old - makes me think they are selling the stuff rather giving it to those in need. The futon looks like a chaise lounge and can be used as a sofa and then you just flip the cusion out and you have a queen size bed. Anyone reading this post can have them but you would have to pick them up
