Deintinis is a nice guy and have nothing negative to say on him. However - from the candidates experience and based on votes - this really should have gone Cogan. Really concerned where this board is headed and how it will impact our schools.

As far as the third guy -- seriously his thought was turning the schools into an armed camp??? Did I misread.

Same old BS politics here in Parsippany, nothing ever changes. To bad for the students, they don't count anymore. The Board of Education is about everything but Education. Now the Board can get to their real agenda, punish the teachers and superintendent. Lets be sure to hurt them with this contract (in you ever get around to giving them one). Only the Police should be high paid public employees after all. Parsippany has far too many lemmings voting. Silly me, I thought the purpose of voting was so the will of the people was done, not the will of party.

I was at that meeting and the people spoke loud and clear. They DID NOT want this man to be appointed to that seat by any means. The new board obviously has no interest in their community or its people. Disgraceful!

Sexism in America still alive today. They asked Allison what weaknesses she had but no one dared to ask that of the other two men that stood before them. Suzy the President of the board then comments on the busy schedule Allison must have being she is a parent with five children, wondering where she would find the time for the BOE.
The Board of Education building was packed with voters that spoke on behalf of Allison. She had a solid resume and received many more votes than DeIntinis. She ran twice and received the forth highest number of votes each time. She had no political motives to be on this BOE. She was doing it for the children of Parsippany. Some how this new BOE lost its way and forgot about the children of Parsippany.

Parsippany residents will remember please remember this in November. We can replace Strumolo and DeIntinis with our votes. We need to send a message to this Board of Education. The people of Parsippany votes will not be ignored or denied.

So much for democracy, the Strumolo machine has spoken! I wish Board member DeIntinis well. Ms Cogan, you were obviously the most qualified board member, but that was what the majority were in search of last night.

Who ever said anything about punishing the teachers or the superintendent? Parsippany teachers were treated very very nicely with the last couple of contracts. Also in all honesty teachers contracts are not that important because they get retro pay. In 2009 teachers got a raise for the 2007 school year. Right now in this tough economy we can't have 4 percent raises. If the teachers are very reasonable with their demands then they deserve a contract and they deserve my respect something I lost for them many years ago. Also at least the police if you have an issue with somebody they'll hear you and give you an explanation. When you try to meet somebody in the school district they roll their eyes at you.

Safe in our schools? Come on! What is the BOE possibly going to do to make the schools "safer". I really hate when public figures ride a tragedy's shock wave to gain favor or attention for their own benefit.

Will be interesting to see what this new board of ed does first. Will we finally give our teachers a contract? I do have one suggestion for them, please make the length of this new contract longer than usual. The last couple of contracts were so short, that by the time BOE and teachers came to agreement, it was "like" only a year before the new contract expired and teachers were working without a contract again. Let's give them a fair contract with a longer time table so we aren't spending money on mediators every other year.

Part one: Well, we knew from the get go that Mr. DeIntinis was going to fill the vacancy, but one could only hope that the board majority would do the right thing. After listening to the candidates speak last night, it was clear that Mrs. Cogan was the most qualified and would have brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to this board in the areas of EDUCATION and finance. Resident after resident got up and spoke of their support for Alison Cogan. Mrs. Cogan had more votes than Mr. DeIntinis in the last election. What more did the majority faction of this board need to hear? Was Mr. DeIntinis the most qualified candidate? I'm not sure. He really had nothing to say about education; his main focus was safety in the schools. We already have a comprehensive safety plan in place that is on file with the PPD and the County. We have Mr. Carifi, who is a Captain with the PPD sitting on the Board, as well as Mr. Martin, Captain (ret.). Don't get me wrong. The safety of our children is paramount; but do we need another police officer on the board to ensure that? Mr. Gaydo (Col., ret.), the same thing.

Part two: What I was HOPING to see last night was a board that was ready to put politics aside and get down to the business of EDUCATION... a clean slate, a fresh start. What I SAW last night was a board that thumbed their noses at the taxpayers and played payback's a bitch. I know that those who support the majority faction will call my statement here "sour grapes" among other things. So be it. Nothing has changed except the players. It's still politics as usual. I only hope that those who support the board majority will keep as much of a watchful eye on them as they have the previous board. Given what happened at last week's board meeting and again last night, we're going to need it.

It is very upsetting that five members of our Board of Education held their own election and thereby told over 5,000 voters in our town, that their votes in the recent school board election do not count. I sure hope these five individuals discover when they seek re-election, that the voters do have the FINAL say.

This has nothing to do with a Teachers Contract or children safety, and all to do with power and greed! Capt. Carifi has been in one week and already pulled in his running mate with back room deals. No voters wanted this guy he came in dead last at the polls. Last summer Capt. Carifi ran his wife for town council to sit with his brother. I'm sure there is another Carifi power grab coming!! The voters are the last thing on there minds....

Steve and Mike(s) thanks for clearing up the armed camps. As far as Cogan - still think she deserved a shot. Obviously - all should have been asked the same questions. However it is also obvious that the board majority had made up their mind beforehand. Hopefully - the new board will focus on improving the schools.

No, what is upsetting is the childish comments posted above. I guess now we need to apply the Bullying Law to the adults as well to the children because it was obvious that Monica and George were trying to bully the board. If you think the group last night equally represented the community, you are sadly mistaken. Its common knowledge why people don't come to these Board Meetings because they don't want to listen to people like Debbie Orme, Monica Sclafani and George Blair.
As someone pointed out last night, attendance does not make you a qualified candidate. Its great that Cogan does so much in the community but what are her real priorities? Family or popularity? Let's not ignore the obvious, Cogan is a Seitz Supporter, Calabria/Orthwein Supporter, who all have cost $$$ these taxpayers and children greatly. At the debate, she chose not to answer about Seitz's contract or make clear independent statements. The community knows who she aligns herself
with the "Neglia and Calabria, Friends and Family Plan." No one likes change but sometimes change is necessary to do what is right, not the "right thing" sore losers. Kudos to the Board of Ed for not allowing themselves to be bullied!

There's no team in Carifi and DeIntinis..i mean there are no i's in team but 5 in those two. As you can see these are all Carifi's pals. There was no way Allison was going to win this vote.

To Nancy and Monica. Do you remember how back in 2010 when person after person after person got up and wanted the super intendents contract rescinded but the board didn't listen that's kind of what happened here. If we don't like Mr. Deintinis as a board member we all have the option of replacing him in November. I had no problem with any of the candidates and believe all of them could do a great job.

First of all Alison Cogan is a fine, outstanding person and I have no doubt she will sit on the Board one day. Few will argue that ballot positioning played a role in the last election, and obviously the Board is broken into two camps. Some are upset because they felt Alison, who received 5,101 votes in the last election, should have been chosen over Anthony DeIntenis, who got 4,352 votes. The law says if a vacancy occurs, the sitting members of the Board get to pick a new member. The law does not say the board has to pick the next person who had the next highest amount of votes. The sitting Board members did not makeup the law. Also, ask yourself why would James Carifi, who received 7,589 votes, want to negate his vote by picking for someone who ran with the opposing side over his running mate, In one year there will be a new election and it will be your turn to vote. Relax folks!

I am very pleased with the decision made. Alison Cogan is not the right candidate for the job. For many obvious reasons. Think about it people; she herself has made a few really good points! Perhaps, you should go and speak to the teachers and students before you make random choices. When it comes to Alison, there are no facts; but interpretations. Anyone can do that job. You do not need an expert in finance or education (which, by the way, is is neither). Good luck Mr.DeIntinis. May you and the rest lead with your heart and reason. Go out and speak to everyone in town get the pulse of the people living here; especially the students! They are the ones living day by day this town's flowed education system that is now in place. Start with administration. Seitz and company need to go. The fish always smells from the head and it is now putrified and rotten! Good luck to all!

Monica Sciafani: We are finally in total agreement on how the BOE does business.I was impressed with Allison at the candidate's night years ago. Remain vigilant on Strumolo's activities...

It is a dysfunctional board with a very low IQ. They Are in it for who knows what, but it is not to make sure the kids are getting a quality education. Cops with huge egos have always been dangerous. How did Carifi become wealthy? He doesn't seem to follow the rules-he has his own. He sounds like an egomaniac with an inferiority complex. His partner too. God help the many issues the school district is putting under the carpet.

I, for one, am embarrassed by the way some members of this board conduct themselves. I am sick and tired of the negative news articles and those who are labeled advocates by the news, when in realtity and for the most part they are a bunch of haters, who have personal agendas, and simply know how to stir/manipulate a crowd into a frenzied mob. Strumolo is one such person. Wherever Strumolo goes, confusion and calimity follow. Stumolo sits up there on the pulpit with his poison cool aide drinkers, both on the board and in the audience, bullying his way through meetings. Wouldn't it be prefered to have board members who can disagree in a respectful and meaningful way with each other, board members who actually have the school districts interests at heart and who know how to conduct themselves in a professional mannter, but that is not Strumolo's way. When he was on the council he created the same hostile atmosphere. He sits in his gas station spewing venom to anyone who will listen to him and surrounds himself with people who he can manipulate into following his wishes. He and his crew personify the saying that "politics makes strange bedfellows". Their cause: to destroy anyone they see in the way of accomplishing their self-serving, egotistical agendas.

I find it interesting that the same people who are either defending the process or who have remained uncharacteristicly silent on the choice of DeIntinis as a BOE member have also labled the Republican Committee,s choice of Stanton & Ferrara as cronyism. It seems that if the person who is chosen is someone that they support then they support the legal process, but when it is someone that they do not support it is cronyism. This real show will begin when the clash of the gigantic ego's between Carifi and Stumolo begins. There is no way that these two guys can work together unless it will be to form an alliance to destroy the current Mayor in the next election. After all, Strumolo is anti Barberio because Strumolo is no longer the unofficial Mayor of Lake Hiawatha and Carifi's motives...well let's see if you can or will connect the dots based upon headlines in the near future.

Folks, do not delude yourselves, the disturbances on the council and on the BOE have noting to do with virtue and/or concern for the community, but have all to do with power and greed.

Let's look at what has happened over the past 6 months. Let's take a look at Lou Valorie, the self-proclaimed conservative Republican, who want's people to believe that he was improperly disqualified from sitting on the council. First, Lou Valorie was on terminal leave from the police depart. For those of you who do not know what that is, it is when a police officer who is about to retire goes out on leave and gets paid his salary without working as compensation for sick/vacation time that he hasn't used. Therefore, Valorie was not qualified to be on the council because he remained on the force and payroll collecting $100's of thousands of dollars in compesatory pay until his anticipated date of actual retirement. This type of compensation is usually looked upon with disgust by the public, yet not one person maked an issue out of this when Valorie continued to eat from the troff and also wanted a government seat he wasn't entitled to. Instead, he & his crony supporters blamed everyone, including the Mayor instead of accepting responsibility for trying to deceive the public themselves.

Next, in recent times Valorie has described himself as a supporter of the Republican Party in town, and a good, conservative Republican. His past behovior speaks otherwise. Does a good conservative Republican sign a letter entitled "Republicans for Luther" in support of the Democrat candidate over the Republican candidate? Does his conduct show respect for the people's choice to represent them in the general election? NOT. While on the BOE, Valorie voted for the Superintendent's contract before he voted against it. Does that seem like a good conservative Republican move to you? NOT. So ask yourselves folks, why? I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

Who are you going to vote for mayor? Will Valore run. How about Carifi's brother. If he runs and wins then we will sure be in trouble with both Carifi's in a public office. You already see what Jim has tried. Who knows what Paul will do in office. Somehow we will get screwed in the long run.
