Single Stream Recycling Takes Effect This Week
New system will make it easier to recycle and may generate more revenue for town.
Single stream recycling will begin Tuesday in Parsippany, paving the way for residents to more easily recycle items and an opportunity for the township to perhaps generate more revnue.
Residents can load up bottles and cans, newspapers and junk mail in the same containers that will be picked up by Green Sky Industries, also known as Zozzaro Brothers. (Note: updates previous spelling error of the company name.)
The only item Greg Schneider, director of the township's Department of Public Works, would like township residents to separate is cardboard, which brings in $140 a ton as compared to the average cost expected with single stream at $40 to $45 per ton.
Making recycling easier brings the hope that residents will recycle more, reducing bulk waste that costs more at the landfill and increase recycling revenues.
The first week in January garbage and recycling pickup is as follows:
Jan. 3 garbage districts 1,2,4; recycling 1 Jan. 4 garbage districts 3,5,6; recycling 2,6 Jan. 5 garbage districts 1,2,4; recycling 3 and Jan. 6 garbage district 3,5,6; recycling 4,5.

Can anyone tell me if the "Cesaro Brothers" mentioned as the new waste removal vendor for the Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills is related to our Town Council member John Cesaro?

It's a spelling error since corrected. There is absolutely no connection to John Cesaro.

Thank you so much for the rapid and very professional correction of an error! There are not many reporters who are so quick and eager to do and write the "right thing". You have earned my respect a long time ago, but I am very happy to see you still doing your best to always act and report with integrity. I am sure that the Mayor and Mr. Cesaro are just as pleased.
I do still have a few questions though. Was this contract put out to public bid? Is the Town of Parsippany paying more or less for the newly contracted service? Was the old contractor no longer interested in Parsippany's business? Just curious.

Quick question. The article states that they would like the cardboard to be separated, but the single stream graphic shows the cardboard going into the same container. Can we put it all in the same container?

According to Greg Schneider, if you choose to put the cardboard in with everything else, you certainly can. However, he asks that the cardboard be separated because the township (e.g. YOU) get more money for separated cardboard. It is, however, your choice as to how you choose to handle your recycling.

Hank, it's a renewal. The township's recycling department has worked with Green Sky for about a decade. I will have more details with any luck tomorrow. The questions have been asked.
