Would-Be Robber Who Brandished Gun Sought, Police Say
Victim was threatened at gunpoint, but the man ran off before stealing anything, police said.
The Parsippany Police Department is seeking a suspect in connection with a reported robbery attempt on Tuesday night in the area of Midvale Avenue.
The man is described as being between 6 feet and 6 feet-2 inches in height and wearing a black hoodie, black ski mask, black jeans and black boots, police said.
Police said Officer Thomas Dinkelspiel was sent to Midvale Avenue and Birch Lane at about 10:15 p.m.
The officer talked with the victim, who said he was walking west on Midvale when a man jumped out from behind a large tree, according to police. The man, who was brandishing a handgun, reportedly ordered the victim to empty his pockets. When he placed his hands into his pockets, police said, the suspect fled west on Midvale on foot and turned right on to Walnut Street without taking any of the man’s belongings.
Police said the victim chased the suspect but lost sight of him after he made the turn.
Responding officers canvassed the area along with detectives from the PPD’s Investigative Division, but were not able to find the suspect, police said.
Police said the crime is still under investigation.
