Improvements are coming for a potentially dangerous path leading from Jagged Rock to the Parsippany High School football field, said Board of Education President Frank Calabria at Thursday's school board meeting.

Calabria announced that the township has agreed to partner with the school district to deal with the path, which was labeled as potentially hazardous by Parsippany resident Robert Crawford at the Sept. 27 BOE meeting.

He said the repairs should be completed on or about Nov. 30 and should cost the district about $15,000.

According to Crawford, the path is filled with rocks and potholes, is difficult to negotiate and is potentially dangerous, particularly for elderly and disabled people.

"The mayor was very supportive and offered the town's services to help," Calabria said, adding that Township Engineer Justin Lizza was among the officials who visited the PHS path to determine how to proceed with the project. "The township will shoot the elevation for us so we know the slope and design a plan to remediate the area.

"We'll obtain the permits and material needed," he said.

Calabria said the path will be closed to the public for "a short bit of time" after the end of the fall sports season to allow time for repairs to take place. He said the remediation will include the addition of steps made of pressure-treated or concrete.

"The Department of Public Works will assist with the work," the president said.
