Chamber President, Retired Cop to Run for Council
With two official and one unofficial candidate announcements this week, Parsippany voters will have a decision to make come June.
The race for the 2013 Township Council Republican primary election is underway.
On Saturday afternoon at Lake Hiawatha Park, Parsippany Area Chamber of Commerce President Robert J. Peluso and retired Parsippany Police sergeant and Board of Education member Louis Valori announced their joint campaign for the town's lawmaking body.
Speaking before a group of friends and family members, Peluso said their campaign is about honoring the past while investing in the future.
"My running mate and I are standing here in the coldness of winter without a podium, without giveaways and fanfare ... as two responsible community leaders... officially declaring our candidacy for council," he stated. "Responsible leaders persevere and donʼt complain, they are open and transparent, responsible, and—yes—have a plan."
Peluso offered information on his background as a business person for 28 years, town leader, community volunteer and new father.
"Parsippany is special to me," he said, stating the Peluso-Valori campaign theme: “Making a Difference in Parsippany.”
"As a loyal, responsible Republican, I have a record of working tirelessly as a campaign manager and successfully put candidates into office, attended council meetings, led concerned neighborhood groups and supported conservative beliefs," Peluso said. "I am running for council because I care about our township and I care about the opportunities our families have to enjoy a good quality of life. If it's broken, we need to fix it. If it's good, we need to make it better while listening to our community."
He pointed to challenges he aims to tackle, including rising taxes, traffic, flood issues and creating thriving businesses.
"Itʼs time to take a long, hard look at how local government operates," he told the audience. "Itʼs time to treat our homeowners, our neighbors, our businesses as more than just an endless source of tax revenue. My fight is your fight for the community.
"I want your vote and promise you this: I wonʼt back down from the tough fights, I will not go along to get along and Iʼll fight to make sure that your tax dollars are spent wisely."
Valori, who just missed being appointed to fill the last council vacancy because of now-cleared issues surrounding his retirement from the police department, said he and Peluso are likeminded men who make a good team.
"We are both fiscally conservative taxpayers involved with our community; we both have children and good family values," he said. "With Rob’s strong background in the banking industry and economic development, we both believe in responsible leadership with a plan."
Valori pointed to issues surrounding "constant" tax increases, quality of life, community and economic development, flood control and ensuring each taxpayer has a voice in "our diverse" community.
"We are diversified leaders who will provide direction and a vision to meet the challenges in this new economy," he said.
He added that their ticket is a positive thing for township Republicans and for the party.
"Rob and I are loyal Republicans committed to preserving conservative ideals and the Republican Party in Parsippany," he said. "We need Republican leadership that is experienced, educated and that will achieve results."
The men ended the event with a slogan: "Vote Peluso and Valori, responsible leadership with a plan."
So far, the ticket faces opposition from one challenger: On Thursday, speaking before Morris County Young Republicans in Morristown, Mayor James Barberio said unofficially that his re-election ticket will include former Planning Board member Milin Shah.
Shah confirmed the announcement to Patch, noting that he was "excited," but made no formal statement. An official announcement of the Barberio-Shah ticket is expected soon.
The primary election is scheduled for June 4. Filing deadline for prospective candidates is 4 p.m. on April 1.

Greg, yes it would be nice to see a few new candidates for office that could bring a fresh outlook, but thats not what this ticket is doing, particularly with Valori. He's not running because he cares about the town, he's running because he was upset when he didn't get a free promotion when he was still a cop. Just like Carifi did, he cried, whined, and was even willing to cheat the system if necessary (remember the eligibility debacle last year?) to get ahead. Now he's just running to settle a personal vendetta.

He pointed to challenges he aims to tackle, including rising taxes, traffic, flood issues and creating thriving businesses.
Great but how will they accomplish this. I would like to see precise details of the actions they will take.
Will they stop the tax increases? Will they reduce the taxes? Will they reduce spending? Will they tackle the waste that goes on in the town?

I don’t know how Louie or Robert can call themselves loyal Republicans with a straight face. Everyone knows that both Valorie and Peluso were caught red handed helping the Democrat candidates in previous primaries and general elections against the Republican candidates. At least Peluso does his Judas act covertly, but Valori, well that’s another story. In the 1995 primary Valori signed a letter that was distributed town wide entitled “Republican’s for Luther” and actively campaigned for him. He was also caught brazenly putting up signs for Mimi Lett’s against Agostini in the 1991 election. At Johnathan Nelson’s swearing in it was a love fest between the so called loyal Republicans and the Democrats in the audience. Let me ask you folks; are these the actions of loyal Republican?

Now everyone who is a Democrat, don’t get your panties up in a wad. I do not care what party anyone is registered with and believe that despite party affiliation average, ordinary citizens should vote for the best possible candidate. My problem here is when people proclaim to be loyal to a party, are seeking the endorsement of that party then they should, at the very least, really be loyal to that party’s beliefs. Neither of these guys are and that is a problem.

Really, Robert Peluso a viable candidate? If economic development is a failure in the town then Peluso is the poster-boy for failure. Do you really want to elect a guy to the council who at previous town council meetings openly and for the record claimed total responsibility for the town’s economic development engine through his position as President of the Chamber and is now trying to use the inference of alleged economic development failure to his advantage? Do you really want to elect a guy who openly opposed and attempted to sabotage the town’s proactive attempt to create a foundational springboard for economic development simply because of his own grandiose ego, misplaced feelings of entitlement and maniacal self-absorption? Do you really want to elect a guy to the council whose support of his position as the sole engine for economic development was a former chair to the Democratic Party in town? Do you really want to elect a guy who methodically worked to undermine the town’s attempts to promote economic development for his own selfish reasons? Do you really want to elect a guy who proclaimed sole responsibility for the town’s economic development and is now attempting to create a false platform to deflect and shroud his own failure in economic development? Do you really want to elect a guy who can be so manipulative and misleading to make honest decisions for you on the council?
Parker Jones

Really, Louie “The Lock” Valorie a viable candidate! If the Superintendent is the “poster-boy for greed” then Louie is his brother. Do we really want to elect a person on the Council who walked away with more than $120,000 in payout for his unused sick-time as per his generous union contract? Do we really want another retired police officer who is collecting $80,000 plus a year in pension, free life-time health benefits for him and his family and earned his PHD in Education (a field that had nothing to do with police work) on the backs of the town’s taxpayer due to his lucrative union contract making decisions for us on the council? Do we really want a guy who knew he was still technically an employee of the town while collecting his terminal leave and was ineligible to run for council but did so anyway making decisions for us on the council? Do real Republicans want a guy who has repeatedly and openly abandoned his party to promote candidates from the opposing party representing them in the primary and making decisions for them on the council? Do we really want a person who while on the BOE first voted for Seipt’s outrageous contract before he voted against it making decisions for us on the council?
Valori’s and Peluso’s best buddy and prime supporter is Jimmy Vigilante. Remember…If you lay down with dogs, you get up with flees. Need anything more be said.?

Oh let's not forget Peluso's track record on community involvement and economic development. Instead of lobbying for the property next to the Long Horn to remain open space and continue to act as a detention basin for the overflow from the brook and high water table, he used his influence to successful lobby the council for a zone change so that a developer could construct high density town homes. Now he’s promoting himself to the public in his bid for a council seat as a champion of ideas to solve flooding in our area when his actions to promote the overdevelopment of this parcel of land directly contributed to the never before flooding of Rte. 46 and the Holiday Inn by Hurricane Irene.

Carol obviously you are a Barberio supporter. How can you support an individual who has paid our town attorney an outrageous amount of money. Barberio is the one who water our tax payer money on the attorney for the field of dreams. Then Barberio wasted our money defending the letter he wrote asking a judge to take it easy on a convicted drug dealer. Carifi has my vote as well as many other educated taxpayers votes in Parsippany

Ms Jones, whether I support Mayor Barberio or not isn't relevant because I do not support Mr Carifi's bid for mayor and I'll let you know the very simple reason. There is a nepotism policy for the BOE that comes directly from the state that says that if someone has an immediate family member employed in the schools then that person can NOT serve on the BOE. There are only two options, either the current employee resigns or the candidate does not qualify, period. The policy allows for current employees and current members to be grandfathered but we all know that going forward, once any current BOE members are gone, that will be the end of it. There is no valid reason for that policy not to apply to our municipal government and since Mr Carifi's brother is employed in our police department I think he should not be our mayor unless his brother, or any other family members, are not employees. How will he negotiate the contracts? What about the lawsuit his brother has against the town because he wasn't promoted? These are the type of questions that prompted the state mandating the BOE nepotism policy and I expect the same good rules to govern our municipal government so no, I will never support Mr Carifi as mayor unless he has absolutely NO FAMILY members that he's in charge of that are paid with MY tax dollars!

You can say what you want any educated person would know that Mr. Carifi would have to refuse himself on voting on a police contract, although I believe John Fox was able to vote on his son in laws years ago. That was according to Mr. Inglisino. Carol you really need to talk about the issues in this town. Mr. Carifi has always been one to listen to peoples concerns, not like Mr. Barberio who can't find the time to call people back, he forgot all the little people who elected him. Now that's a new one. How silly Ms Jones; if you find my simple reason why I don't support a particular candidate as threatening, should I think to call you Paul for example? During the recent election, one of the BOE hot topics was nepotism. It was talked about at a lot of their meetings, was part of the candidate profiles and Mr Strumolo even wrote a letter to the editor at Parsippany Life strongly apposing the practice and pointing out that those with family working in the schools should not be on the BOE. It's an issue that many people have a problem with and I think that if you are completely unaware of the topic then you are out of touch with how our community feels. I think a rule that prevents our elected from being in charge of or hiring family is a good one; I don't want my tax dollars in the hands of someone who makes the decision about how his or her family member gets paid or what job they hold. And if the mayor has to recuse himself from doing a part of his job because he has a family member involved, exactly who steps in to do the job when he can’t? You can’t compare that concern to the Town Council, though I’m not happy about that set up as well but, at least there are 4 others who can continue to get the work done.

For all you haters and puppets for Mayor Barberio!! The following are facts as to why the Taxpayers of Parsippany can no longer afford Jammie!!
1. We have an overwhelming amount of vacant business space in Parsippany that means a loss to the taxpayers. He has done nothing!! One example the REALOGY bldg vacant millions in taxable rates!
2. Over one MILLION Dollars a year in attorneys fees!! Just to take care of his pals to fund him for his campaigns. Follow his election reports and follow the money trail.
3. Lawsuits that are costing the township several hunderd dollars a year to the taxpayers. Just resently we the taxpayers had to pay a clerk that worked for 4 months $250,000 come on we have folks that loss their job and homes!!
4.Nepotisim jobs for our career politicans that are milking the pension system. Our friend Ann Grossi Freeholder handling Workmen Comp Cases on behalf of our Mayor. Along with her pal John Cesario Freeholder who is milking our town as a public defender and milking the town of Montville all at the taxpayers expense!! The Mayors daughters boyfriend works at the water department with no interview!! So if you need a job go down to the water department if thats the new standard!! This is not the agenda that our Governor supports!! Thiese are career politican that can't make it in the private sector because their clueless.
5.Mayor the Field of Dreams cost the taxpayers over 200,000 dollars in legal bills. Are you a Democrat?? Oh thats Milin Shah!

And what were you thinking of when you gave the chief of police a big fat contract!! Much more lucrative than chief Peckerman!! Wait to the taxpayers see his contract that the mayor approved!! This is Madness!!
7. I still for the life of me can't understand why would you write a letter on the Township letter head begging for leincey for a convicted drug dealer!! Who sold drugs to the youth in our town?? Jammie that letter is the property of the PEOPLE of Parsippany!! And to top it off you get reprimanded from the Morris County Prosecutors Office for your horrible decision!! You again embarrassed our town. Great job is that what the Governor would be proud of along with all your assembly friends?? Great job I just can't wait for all these elected officals who will stick up for your pathetic behavior. They will have alot of explaining to do to their constituetes!!
What is quite clear about you is your lack of education, leadership and experience. Your a nice guy but the wrong guy for the job you are way over your head and the taxpayers of Parsippany can not afford you anymore.

Ok, let’s call a spade a spade here and stop all of this foolishness. Stop causing trouble and interfering in Parsippany. Stop attacking other elected officials at the county and state level in this district to help you friend strengthen his outside influence in Parsippany and position himself for higher office. Now, everyone knows the real deal about what is going on in Parsippany. It’s plain and simple. This is about power and greed. Everyone knows that you and your friend are knee high in the dirt that is going on in my town. That you both are promoting the divisiveness for your own benefit. Everyone knows that the insanity in Parsippany in the Republican Party would not be happening if the Mayor had 1. promoted Carifi faster to the Captain’s position, 2. overstepped his authority to send Carifi to Quantico for training leapfrogging over the police officer who the FBI chose, 3. allowed Carifi to continue to collect overtime pay to facilitate the Citizen’s Academy (that’s right folks he was not volunteering his time), and 4. promoted him to Deputy Chief even though he had not taken the civil service exam and was not on the eligible list (which would have lead to a law suit by the union that the town would have lost and is the reason for Carifi’s frivolous lawsuit against the town) Why was there this great brouhaha about promoting a member of the force to the 4th Captain’s position.

In local elections; why must we have the same "two" parties as our political cliche only allows under the big dome? Republicans and Democrats. A conservative republican? look at what they have done for the country since Reagan and impeding all business. When Peluso says; making a difference; guess that means him being the difference period. Flood problems and thriving business, can he get the bi-pass value on the Dam fixed or see to it that great weather events are cancelled? Thriving business; will he bring our nations' jobs back and fight for social justice; how about business that keeps Lake Hiawatha, free from trash, litter and garbage practicing "clean communities" principals in the community. WE ALL SHOULD KNOW BY NOW WHAT IS GOOD FOR BUSINESS IS NOT ALWAYS GOOD FOR THE REST OF US.

It’s not because it is costing the town more money or taking police off of patrol. Truthfully, the Captains are on patrol right along side of the regular police officers and when the administration promoted the officer to Captain because he accepted additional duties the position that he held was eliminated. So where is the excessive spending? The real reason that Paul Carifi made such a big stink about the Captain’s position is not because we need more patrols or because of cost it was because having 4 Captains instead of 3 forces his brother James Carifi to compete for the Chief’s position rather than just having the Mayor promote him to the position. How does it do that? Well by filling the 4th Captain’s position forces Carifi to take the civil service exam, be ranked in the top three on the list and actually compete for the appointment. Let’s take a look at Valori. Everyone knows that Valori is running because the Mayor did not promote him to the next level several months before he was slated to go out on terminal leave.

Your really something. Keep changing your name so you can keep spreading bad info. Cesaro does not get a pension for his public defender job. Grossi will not be padding a pension if she is elected Clerk. In 2006 The pension rules were amended to exclude newly elected officials from joining the pension. So your comments are bald faced lies. Both Grossi and Crsaro are attorneys. It's what they do for a living. they are performing legal services for which they are licensed. They are being paid for services rendered. If Grossi is doing workers Comp it goes through the insurance company. The insurance companies have s pool of attorneys they, not the town assign cases to for their various clients. I'd say educate yourself but we both know that your comments have nothing to do with education.

Natalie-
I just want to throw out there for everyone- take a look at the elect report for DeIntinis and Carifi. How is it he(DeIntinis) spent nothing for his run at the BOE? Mr. Carifi onlyreported spending $2,252.30 for his party at the Sheraton. Who paid for the 300 dble sided 4x4 signs? The full page Parsippany Life ad? The door hangers? Post card mailers? Robo-calls? Small signs? I think you get the picture...a private non-reported donation from the deep pockets on the hill-Mr. Colangelo? or perhaps Mr. Mossberg? Maybe payment for Carifis chauffer duties during Sandy for those Bentley gas runs to the head of the line.I think Mr Messmer needs to wake from his slumber and start digging...
