I feel for this woman. As a commuter and resident of Parsippany that takes the bus constantly crossing Route 46 at the lights and in the walkways is becoming a take your life in your own hands situation especially now that it's dark out again. Perhaps it's time to consider pedestrian overhead walkways, more electronic signs indicating Pedestrian intersections. I live near Rte.46 and Cherry Hill Rd. and I am petrified every time I have to cross from getting off the bus and to make matters worse I see with Kids!!!!!!!!!!! crossing mid way on 46............not good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marilyn I agree with you but I also think pedestrians need to be smarter when they are crossing. I have seen many people standing/walking/biking on the side of Route 46 in dark clothes, in fact I nearly hit one last night standing in the zebra stripes at Cherry Hill Road and 46. If you cross at the crosswalks, wear appropriate clothing, and are alert these things almost never happen. Unfortunately most of the fatalities are people crossing in dark clothes, in poorly lit areas, and not in a crosswalk.

I agree and there are too many people ignoring the lights and risking crossing in mid section . Onlt Tuesday there was a woman with 3 kids crossing mid section here at Cherry Hill with 3 kids and against the light. Wearing appropriate clothing isn't the answer can't expect people to dress inappropriately for business. I certainly can't

I remember another fatality there a few years ago. An employee from the Party City was killed after making a run to Burger King. It's quite a shame. Does anyone know if the person was in the intersection or crossing somewhere else?

I personally witnessed a fatality at that same intersection 5 years ago when a man in his 50s disembarked from the bus, and crossed, and was hit by a young teenage girl that didnt see him. It was past sunset and it was horrifying to see it in real time.

I drove by very shortly after the accident--before police arrived, and the body of the woman was lying half way on the median and half way off--not at the intersection but a little bit down the road toward Walgreens. It seems like she wasn't crossing at the intersection.

Not knowing the facts, I can't debate where the woman stood. I have to say this, though, if you see a pedestrian, YIELD PEOPLE! Yield in crosswalks, yield in town, just yield! I have two little kids and I regularly try to cross Vail Road at a crosswalk to take a nice healthy walk into downtown Lake Hiawatha and people could care less. Cars zoom past me and actually speed up when they see me there waiting at the crosswalk with my 10-month-old and toddler in their double stroller. It's not safe and it's sure not neighborly. I pray the police do another undercover crosswalk crackdown.

I'm not sure what the answer is. I think that both pedestrians and drivers need to be more alert and cautious. I have seen poor judgment on both ends. I will, however, say a special prayer for this young woman and her family and friends tonight.

Dan - you are probably thinking of Denville, where there is a huge walking overpass. There's no walking overpass in Parsippany.

what is adding to this problem too is the street lights that are not being fixed, these poles cost a thousand dollars to support a non functioning light ,there are so many lights out all over ,beverwyck rd too. at one time last year all the ones on west bound side of rt 46 were out from the home depot to rt 46 and beverwyck.lighting sure be checked isn't there anyone that has that job? and people who have the street lights in front of their homes should call the power company to let them know their street needs the light fixed, you could help save the lives lost in these accidents.
