Parsippany Playhouse is alive through June 2 with the sounds of Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Parsippany's Women’s Theater Company presents the final show of its 20th season, the Rodgers and Hammerstein revue “A Grand Night for Singing.” Performances run on the weekends now through June 2. The production, what the company calls a celebration of "timeless masterpieces from the music of Richard Rodgers and lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein II," is produced by Barbara Krajkowski with musical direction from Warren Helms and staging by Lauren Moran Mills. The two act musical revue was conceived by Broadway legend Walter Bobbie, who compiled 34 Broadway gems from the R&H canon. It includes fresh takes on songs from popular and historic musicals such as "Oklahoma!", "The Sound of Music," "The King and I," "South Pacific," and even the recent …

'A Grand Night for Singing' is theater company's next offering.
It's been quite a ride for Parsippany's Women's Theater Company. For 20 years, the thespian group housed within the Parsippany Community Center's Parsippany Playhouse has kept live theater alive in the township. Just in the last year, the WTC has delighted audiences with plays such as "Southern Comforts" and the recent "A Person of Interest" and musical shows like "Carol Channeling." The next Parsippany Playhouse presentation will in fact be a musical revue: "A Grand Night for Singing" features the classic songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Thinking of the company's milestone, we thought this was the perfect time to shine the Parsippany Spotlight on a township treasure. WTC Executive Director (and producer of "A Grand Night for Singing…

Re-enactors give a glimpse into life 200 years ago
With the welcome warmth and beauty of spring, the Livingston Benedict House was opened to the public with re-enactors and crafters to bring history alive. Julia Dutton and Robert Peterson reside in the Livingston Benedict House and have since 2004. The house has been in Julia's family since 1857. Saturday and Sunday, visitors were welcomed to stories of the past from explorers and soldiers, weavers and candlemakers. The chance to see early farm implements and how they worked took place in the barn.

Offerings include the Mark Wahlberg-The Rock flick "Pain and Gain" and the ensemble rom-com "The Big Wedding."
Looking for something to do this weekend? As the weather gets warmer, expect the films to get funnier and more, um, explosive. (Yeah, we're waiting for the next Iron Man and Wolverine sequels—action, claws and stuff blowing up—and a new one in the "Hangover" comedy franchise that isn't about a forgotten bender.) At the local movie houses, it certainly looks like spring: The beautiful baseball biopic "42" continues (bring a hankie; you've been warned), as does Tom Cruise's sci-fi action flick "Oblivion." And new this week, there are "Pain and Gain" (which sounds like action and big, bulging muscular guys are involved) and Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Robert DeNiro, Katherine Heigl and Topher Grace in "The Big Wedding" (what's spring …
NYC-style comedy comes to Parsippany to benefit Temple Beth Am.
If you don't have plans yet for Saturday night, consider spending the evening laughing yourself silly at the Temple Beth Am Comedy Night at 8 p.m. in Parsippany. Bringing together three of the funniest comics working today, the temple's annual fundraiser promises a night of laughs, fun, cocktails and snacks. On the bill is headliner Johnny Rizzo from Connecticut. One of the stars of "Night of a Thousand Guidos," Rizzo has been one of the premier acts working around the country for over 25 years. As physically funny as he is witty, you will have tears in your eyes watching him contort and twist every inch of his body and face. The evening also presents Montclair's Pat Ceasar, seen on television shows such as "Law & Order" and on stages all …

Offerings include Tom Cruise's sci-fi thriller 'Oblivion' and last week's No. 1, '42.'
The weekend is nigh, and it's time to plan the next couple days' activities. Get your chores done and be sure to take time for fitness and outdoor fun. Do something to help someone, perhaps a random act of kindness. And yes, catch some television. But remember, there's nothing like the real big-screen experience. Consider catching a film at the Parsippany Clearview Cinemas 12 this weekend. There's something for everyone: the baseball biopic "42," about the legendary Jackie Robinson; the 3D version of the classic "Jurassic Park"; Ryan Gosling as a good dad with bad ideas in "The Place Beyond the Pines"; even Tom Cruise's latest. Here's what's showing this week, along with showtimes. (Use the Moviefone widget to check out showings in …

My niece and grandson were volunteers over this past weekend. Having lived in Parsippany for over 44 years I knew the gazebo on Parsippany Road was built to honor an historical event but had no idea the property (which included an old barn with antique tools, etc.)-was so beautiful and that the Peterson's actually live in this historical house. The tour and short play was very informative and the…   more ›
