Spotlight on Parsippany

New Falafel Eatery Caters to Parsippany Lunch Crowd

CRISP, on Route 10, offers Parsippany 9-to-5ers a new spin on the Middle Eastern fried chickpea classic.

Whether you call them garbanzos, chickpeas or fava beans, when crushed, rolled into a ball and deep-friend to crispy perfection, they become falafel, a popular staple in the Mediterranean region and around the world. The Middle Eastern delicacy is the heart and soul of a just-open business being discovered by Parsippany's 9 to 5ers. Sitting on Route 10 is CRISP, and just being open and doing business is a victory for owner Johnny Makkar, a former New York advertising and digital marketing professional who first told Patch of his dream to bring vegetarian felafel to Parsippany's masses months ago. In the interim, he and partner Caroline Helmy endured and overcame a host of roadblocks prior to his ribbon-cutting last Friday, which featured …

Is this the same Crisp on Wheels that I eat at in NYC? I think the food truck is now The Pocketful...but...if it is the same operation, the pockets are DELISH! I enjoy weekly lunches off of, what I consider, the best food truck going! Glad to see there's a brick and mortar version out by home. Can't wait to try it!   more ›

$550 Million in Local Spending Expected from Super Bowl

Estimated 400,000 people expected in region; team practices to be held in Florham Park and Media Day in Newark

The 2014 Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium is expected to have a $550 million economic impact on New Jersey and New York, with an estimated 400,000 people in the region, according to a report on dailyrecord.com. Businesses should start preparing for the flood of visitors now, according to speakers at The Big Game Huddle, an informational and networking event held Wednesday at Raritan Valley Country Club. “Start the celebration now,” said Wayne Hasenbalg, president and chief executive officer of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. “You don’t have to wait until the week before the game," he told the dailyrecord.com. That impact will be felt in North and Central Jersey, as one of the competing teams will practice at the Atlantic …

Don't forget all the cab companies. NJ having non regulated taxi cab rates allows all local cab companies to Jack their prices for a 1 mile ride to and from the Meadowlands area up to $60-$100 a ride or some ridiculous amount. They already do it during any event at the Meadowlands.   more ›

Movies Playing in Parsippany This Weekend

Offerings include the long-awaited Baz Luhrmann treatment of the classic "The Great Gatsby," starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan as Jay and Daisy.

Looking for something to do this weekend? A huge film opens this week, as Aussie director Baz Luhrmann ("Romeo + Juliet," "Moulin Rouge") brings his version of the F. Scott Fitzgerald heavyweight "The Great Gatsby" to the big screen, fueled by a Jay-Z curated score. (We get the idea of a mainstream, hip-hop soundtrack; do check out the remake of Mrs. Carter's "Crazy in Love." The reason for a 3D version escapes us, though; if you see that one, please tell us if the effect adds anything to the roaring '20s tale of excess and crushed dreams.) Also bowing this week: "Tyler Perry's Peeples," starring television's Olivia Pope, Kerry Washington. And "Iron Man 3," last week's box-office champ, returns, making ticket-sales prognostication most …

5 Cars a Mother Would Love

With Mom's big day this weekend, we look at family-style sedans and minivans for sale in Morris County.

Mother's Day is Sunday, and so our thoughts are filled with maternal memories. Moms do it all—bringing home the bacon, frying it in the proverbial pan, cleaning the house, schlepping the kids. She deserves a nice ride, don't you think? Now, many of us can't afford to get our female parent an elegant and reliable sedan or SUV that boasts subtle style yet holds her offspring and their equally rambunctious friends and their scads of junk, but it's nice to ponder. And for those who can produce the necessary scratch, think about what memorable Mama has done for you and check out these babies. This week's installment of 5 Cars is devoted to cars we imagine our own wonderful mother would love. We're not mentioning this to her, however, because we…
