About this column:
News and features surrounding Parsippany and the elections of 2011.The Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Council will continue to have one-party rule. As Council Vice President Brian Stanton enthused just after the last district's count was read, "It's nice to be a Republican in Parsippany." The Democratic Vote for Parsippany ticket of Annelise Catanzaro, Janice McCarthy and Tom Wyka earned a very respectable showing in the polling. In the end, however, despite the low voter turnout, the incumbents of Team Parsippany scored easy victories to maintain their seats on the council. Parsippany Republicans gathered at the old Lake Parsippany firehouse on Halsey Road…
Often, choosing between political candidates comes down to a seemingly simple question: Which one do you believe? And so, Parsippany Patch poses a question for the 2011 General Election. The following men and women are running for Town Council. Each candidate's name links to his or her video profile, and you can see a mini-questionnaire addressing most of the candidates' personal stats and statements. The candidates for council are: Paul Carifi Jr.Annelise CatanzaroMichael dePierro Vincent FerraraJanice McCarthyBrian StantonTom Wyka Check out their information, then take the following poll.
The electoral quiet continues at the Rockaway Meadow Elementary School polling place. Turnout for the 2011 General Election continues to be low despite the state, county and municipal races and the presence of a ballot question concerning legalizing sports gambling on the ballot. One of the names on the legislative portion of the ballot is Joseph Raich, who is a Lake Hiawatha-area gadfly and Democratic candidate for the state General Assembly. "Voting looks like it's light today," Raich said, sounding a little disappointed. "I'm eager to get some of my issues resolved that predominate …
It's tough to be a Democrat in a Republican town. That's why the three candidates running for Township Council seats in the Tuesday general election are spending the day together, and accompanying each other to their respective polling places. Patch met up with Annelise Catanzaro, Janice McCarthy and Tom Wyka at Knollwood Elementary School. Turnout is slow here, so far, according to poll workers. Whether that works for or against the Democrats remains to be seen. The three candidates, however, are upbeat when it coes to their quest of making Parsippany's council, in their view, more …
Lake Hiawatha Elementary School, one of the sites serving as a polling place for Parsippany's 39 voting districts, is hopping this morning. That's due to parents dropping off children for classes, however—not to people coming to cast their votes in the 2011 general election. "I was number 11," said area resident David Kay, who said he showed up to cast a ballot mostly out of a sense of civic duty. "I really don't have that much interest; I tend to vote for the losing party. And I can't say that I'm happy with the present group in government. We'll have to see if we get a change this year." …
The sun is not yet up, but general-election voters are at up and at 'em at Brooklawn Middle School. Candidates for state Senate, General Assembly, the county Freeholder Board and Parsippany Township Council are on the ballot representing the Democratic, Independent and Republican parties. Early speculation is that a tough battle faces the council candidates in particular, where people on both sides of the political aisle say the finish could be a nail-biter that puts and end to the Republican monopoly on the township's legislative body. Of course, what happens depends on what the voters have …
