Each week Patch takes a look ahead at the important football games set to take place in the local NJAC area, and beyond.
Just because the playoffs are on hiatus for one week as teams prepare for sectional championship games Dec. 2 and 3 doesn't mean that we're without football this Thanksgiving. As is the case each season, a few teams are getting set to go head-to-head for some holiday games this week, with just one NJAC matchup actually taking place on turkey day. But this week, the competition progresses after Round 1 saw each No. 8 seeded team eliminated from contention, leaving only the cream of the crop battling for a title in this weekend’s semifinal rounds. After nine weeks of battling to solidify position to earn a sectional title, the time has come for teams to put up or shut up. Playoff time. This week, we’re focusing on a few playoff games that are repeats from the 2011 regular season schedule–and a few that aren’t–and dissecting what each team will have to do to earn a spot in the second round. But for a few NJAC teams, Week 9 offers the last chance to improve their postseason seeds as Madison, Butler and Delbarton get set for their last “official” game of the season. This weekend features a few pretty interesting matchups with teams vying for position heading into the state sectional playoffs. For some teams, winning in Week 8 is a necessity if they want a chance at the tournament. For others, a win will help improve their chances of earning a top seed. Summer’s all but over, which means cold weather is on the horizon. Not the happiest time of year for many, but with the end of summer, comes the beginning of something even better. Football.
