The Parsippany Hills Vikings came into Friday night's matchup against the West Morris Central Wolfpack looking for a 2-0 start to the season, but it wasn't in the cards as the home Wolfpack won, 28-21. Patch photographer Dawn Benko was at the game to chronicle the action, along with the marching band and some die-hard fans. For a full recap of the game, go here.
Hundreds of athletes and fans converged at Black River Fields in Chester on Saturday. The complex was the scene of an old world sport that has become more and more popular in America in recent years. The weather was hot and so was the action on the playing fields.  All involved came to see and participate in the football games but not the kind of football America is familiar with. This style of football is better known as Rugby. The 12th Annual American Flag Rugby Youth Festival sponsored by the Morris Rugby Corporation was behind this event. Since its founding in the 1990's the festival has …

The Boston Brass performed at Parsippany High School on Tuesday night. Earlier in the day, the group held a master class for all the middle school and high school instrumental students in the district. The students then performed the songs they had practiced with the members of Boston Brass during the concert that evening.  The music genres ranged from classical to blues to hits from the Beatles.
Children and their families visited Parsippany-Troy Hills Town Hall Saturday to meet with the Easter Bunny. Mayor James Barberio helped greet the children and even posed for some photos with the bunny, too.
The Par-Troy West Little League opened its 59th season Thursday night at Lake Parsippany Park. The league's baseball and softball teams, comprised of more than 700 children, were introduced and marched around the field. Among the approximately 1,000 people cheering on the players was the New Bears mascot.
Something was fishy in Lake Parsippany Saturday when the annual rite of stocking the lake began. Just in time for the opening of trout season on April 9,  a truckload of fish from Musky Trout Hatchery were delivered in the morning. Club members with nets released them into the lake. Photographer Antonella Rao captured these images.

Josh Nelson, a popular Jewish music performer and producer, held a contemporary musical Shabbat service at Temple Beth Am Friday evening. He was joined by religious school children who learned his music over the past several months.
On a cloudy, chilly day at Lake Parsippany, wraps and corned beef can be comfort food.  Jeremiah's Deli & Catering, owned by township residents Jose and Theresa Navarro, draws a lunchtime crowd who come in for the food and the homey vibe at the family-run business. Photographer Jerry Dalia shot these images on Wednesday.
Parsippany Hills High School's varsity cheerleaders really have something to cheer about this week--themselves.  They placed third in the 19th annual State Cheerleading Championships held at the Sun Center in Trenton on Sunday. They competed against 16 other teams in the small dance category.  The junior varsity team placed fifth. “ New Jersey State competition in one of the biggest,” says Parsippany Hills cheerleading coach Michelle Lazina. “The best come to states.”
Seniors don't go to the Parsippany Community Center to sit around--even when they're playing bingo. Each morning, the exersise room is busy and there are regulars at the ping pong table and game rooms. There are also classes is in Qi Gong, a series of meditative movements similar to Tai Chi. Photographer Warren Westura captured some of the action earlier this week at the center.
After weeks of what seemed to be a constant blanket of snow on the ground, is the ice slowly melting? For good? Photographer Warren Westura captured this week's thaw, which began after a heavy snowfall Sunday night. Let's hope it continues!

Earlier this month, collectors showed of their old stamps, coins and currency at the event. They'll be back again on March 6 starting 9 a.m. Here are some images from the show.
Some day, member of Parsippany's First Lego League might be building robots to colonize Mars, or at least do laundry. But before that, they got to show their skills at the township's first robotics showcase, held at the Vidalaya Sunday school at Eastlake Elementary over the weekend. It drew about 500 visitors. The teams had names like Purple Pelicans, TerroBots, NanoGurus, MoonWalk and Google X-Prize Moonbots, which won third place in an international robotics compeitition over the summer. Mayor James Barberio took the Moonbot for a spin and told students he wished science projects were that …
On a day when the rest of us were trying to thaw out, Morris County's underwater rescue teams held an ice rescue drill on Sunday. The township squad provided safety divers in case someone went under the ice during the drill. Parsipanny Rescue and Recovery was also there. Dressed in immersion suits, the divers went into the water off Island Beach in Mountain Lakes. A crew took out a banana boat to rescue volunteer "victims'' using a rescue collar. The two-hour drill in freezing …
