American Cancer Society’s 2012 Relay for Life Parsippany to Kick Off
January 18th

      The American
Cancer Society of Greater Parsippany’s Relay for Life will take place on June
8th and 9th, 2013 at Veterans Park in Parsippany.  The Kickoff Event for the Relay will be held at the Hanover
Marriott Hotel in Cedar Knolls at 7:30 AM on Friday January 18^th,
2013 with a Snow Date of Friday January 25^th at the same time. 

       Relay for Life
was started in 1985 by a Colorectal Surgeon named Dr. Gordy Klatt in Tacoma,
Washington.  Dr. Klatt walked and ran
for a distance of eighty two miles in twenty four straight hours and got
donations from those who wished to join him for a half hour.  The doctor raised $27,000 for the fight
against cancer                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           in
the inaugural relay and the momentum had begun. Today the Relay for Life is
comprised of teams who wish to celebrate and aid survivors, honor those taken
by cancer, and raise funds for cancer research and prevention.  Relay for Life events are held yearly in
towns and cities around the U.S. and around the world.

      The American
Cancer Society allocates 93% of all money raised to causes for fighting
cancer.  Only 7% of all money raised
goes to administrative expenses.   One
such cause is Hope House, which finds housing for cancer patients and their
family members close to treatment facilities free of charge.  

       The Kickoff
Event on Friday January 18^th is an opportunity for people in the
Morris County Community to learn more about Relay for Life and how they can
participate.  Breakfast will be served
and guest speakers comprising of Cancer Survivors and Relay Team Captains will
share their experiences. 
Representatives from local Corporate Sponsors Including Shop-Rite,
Century 21,  Starbucks, and more will
also be on hand.
