To All Potential Volunteer Coaches/Managers:

PTLLE is planning to host a Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic on Tuesday, February 26th at Parsippany High School.

The Rutgers certification is required for any individual who will have contact with children on the field, either during practice or a game, in the PTLLE program.  The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic (Sports Awareness for Educating Today's Youth) is a three-hour program that meets the "Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs" (N.J.A.C. 5:52) and provides partial civil immunity protection to volunteer coaches under the "Little League Law" (2A:62A-6 et. seq.)  This certification applies to both managers and coaches. Without proof of this certification you WILL NOT be allowed to volunteer as a coach or have any involvement with the children on the field.

Pre-Registration is required so that we can have the appropriate materials on hand. In order to pre-register, please contact Jeff Kreitman at coaches@parsippanybaseball.com no later than Tuesday, February 19th. You will receive confirmation that you are pre-registered.

The class will run on Tuesday, February 26th from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM at the PHS cafeteria and you must stay for the entire class to be certified.  Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early to complete the registration process and make payment. The cost is $37 and is payable by cash, check or money order.

Please note that once the instructor begins the class at 7:00 PM, no one will be admitted to the class even if they pre-registered. This is Rutgers rule, not the leagues. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS!

Please note that the course is not sport specific and does not teach how to play or coach a particular sport. The curriculum of the course covers:

  • Legal Aspects of Coaching
  • Psychological Aspects of Coaching
  • General Coaching Concepts
  • Training and Conditioning Athletes
  • Medical/First Aid Aspects of Coaching

Participants that attend the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic will receive:

  • Way to Go, Coach! (pp. 200) custom edition text
  • The Coaches' Reference Manual (4th edition)
  • The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic Certification Card
  • Permanent registration with YSRC (.3 CEU)

Please use the following link to the Rutgers website for more information related to this program: http://youthsports.rutgers.edu/

If you have previously attended the Rutgers Clinic, then you are certified for life and need not attend again.  This clinic is being offered only for those who have not been previously certified.
