Charity Event Seeks Boxing Enthusiasts

Police Benvevolent Association 131 of Parsippany is holding a charity boxing event on Oct. 19, and amateur boxers from the world of law enforcement are needed.

The forthcoming pugilistic happening will raise funds to benefit the Prayers and Pledges for Peyton Foundation. The nonprofit is named for Peyton Zitelli, a 20-month-old Parsippany girl recently diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer that forms in muscle tissue.

In February, Peyton's friend and neighbor Matthew Santana, 8, led a fundraising and awareness event in which he and others raised more than $13,000 and shaved their heads to show solidarity with the little girl, who receives weekly chemotherapy treatments at a Philadelphia facility.

Anyone wishing to help Peyton and her family by participating should be affiliated with a police, fire or emergency medical services agency. Volunteer boxers must be amateurs with no professional boxing experience. Bouts will be matched by age and weight and will consist of two- to three-minute rounds.

For more information or if you are interested in participating, contact Parsippany Police Det. Daniel Cicala at dcicala@parpolice.com. You can find out more about the event via the Prayers and Pledges for Peyton Facebook page or the organizational website.
