MORRIS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BEGINS SELECTION FOR NEW HOMEOWNERS IN MORRIS TOWNSHIP

Homeowner selection is underway for five new townhomes that will be built in Morris Township.  Morris Habitat for Humanity, headquartered in Randolph,  is building a five unit complex in Morris Township in collaboration with the Morris County Affordable Housing Corporation.  These type of building projects are successful only with the help of dedicated volunteers who come out and put hammers to nails, as well as the selected families themselves that put in a minimum of 300 hours of “sweat equity”.  Those interested in purchasing a 2- or 3-bedroom unit, must register and attend a Home Application Orientation session in Morristown in January. The criteria for eligibility can be found on the Morris Habitat website at http://www.morrishabitat.org/owning/family_selection/.

Throughout the year, new volunteers to help at building sites, in the office or at the Morris Habitat ReStore are always needed and training is available to those interested.  So many of us think of Morris County as a wealthy, upscale area, but the reality is very different.  Morris Habitat for Humanity knows all too well how many families struggle to keep their heads above water and the statistics gathered by United Way of Northern New Jersey support this. One in four households in New Jersey is walking a financial tightrope, unable to afford the basics, just one emergency from falling into poverty. There are actions each of us can take to make a difference, but understanding the problem is a first step.  Calling Morris Habitat for Humanity is the second step.  Making is difference is up to you.
