5 Things You Should Know This Week

A look at the week ahead in Parsippany

Welcome to a new week. As we venture into the last week of October, let's get plugged into events happening this week--including pre-Halloween celebrations--and information that you really should know.

  1.  has an event for those who wish to an early start on Christmas and Chanukah shopping  On Tuesday, the congregation presents its .  More than 25 vendors will be on site selling ladies accessories, home accessories, personalized gifts, children's clothing, candles, jewlery, fashion items and more. And, ladies: Dessert will be provided. The sale takes place from 6-9 p.m. Admission is free. The congregation is located at 879 S. Beverwyck Road. For information, call 973-479-3500.
  2. On Friday, Saturday or Sunday (Monday too!), get spooked at the Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department Haunted House. The demonic dwelling is at 5 Simpson Ave. Hours are 6-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4-10 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Safe time for young kids runs from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 4-6:30 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Admission is $6 per body. Proceeds go to support the department's lifesaving work.   3. If you are a parent looking for a safe way to take your kids trick-or-treating, worry no more: On Friday from 5-7 p.m. 's students present Halloween at the Hills, an event that allows kids to show off their costumes, have holiday fun and stock up on candy and goodies within the safe confines of the high school. On the other side of town? Again, no worries: Parsippany High School will hold a similar event, Halloween at the High, from 5-7 p.m. next Monday.   4. Looking for grownup Halloween fun? The Saturday from 7-11 p.m. at the , 33 Baldwin Road. The BYOB event will feature food, music and dancing, wear a costume. There will be prizes given for the scariest and sexiest costumes and for the best couple. Part of the event's proceeds will benefit the Lake Hiawatha Flood Victims Fund. Admission is $25 per person.
  5. The at 450 N. Beverwyck Road needs your assistance--now. The center, opened by owners Adam and Terry Checke, collects all kinds of items for those affected by the floods of Hurricane Irene including nonperishable food items, school supplies and toiletries. The road to recovery is turning out to be a long one, and many of your neighbors are still trying to put their homes and their lives back in order. Center volunteer Ann Erdmann says most needed now are cleaning items, in particular mops, brooms, brushes, cleaning solutions and laundry detergent. The center is also requesting donations of Halloween costumes so that the kids of flood-affected families can have a fun holiday. For more info, call 973-316-8934.
