Your weekend list of marching orders

Another weekend is upon us and Patch has its half-fortnightly list of suggestions for things to do. We start seeing Halloween events this week with the grand opening of the Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department Haunted House. (We've seen a preview and we're still scared.) If you're not in the mood for All Hallows trickery, treat yourself to other options, including the yearly Morristown Craft Market and Plant Sale, the musical stylings of "Weird" Al and Parsippany's Annual Happy Apple Bazaar. Go on, get out!


When/Where: Friday from 6-11 p.m. at 5 Simpson Ave., Mt. Tabor
Why Go: To get the fright of your life while supporting District 1's volunteer fire department
Cost: $6 per body 

"Distant Thunder" Film Screening and Discussion
Where/When: Thursday at noon at the Bernards Township Public Library, 32 S. Maple Ave., Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Part of series of film screenings with Dr. Kalyan Ray, English Professor at County College of Morris. Film buffs get to feed their minds and also bring a snack or lunch to enjoy.

When/Where: Friday, 5–9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the , Morris Township.
Why Go: 160 artists from more than 25 states will display and sell their fine crafts.
Cost: $10

Acupuncture Happy Hour
When/Where: Friday at 6 p.m. at Highland Yoga, 1572 Route 23, Butler
Why Go: So you can relieve stress an unwind without alcohol. Also so you can learn about the practice of acupuncture and the benefits it can bring to your life.
Cost: $20

When/Where: Friday at 7 p.m. at the Jefferson Township Senior Center, Oak Ridge
Why Go: Because you can hear some great cabaret music performed by the Jefferson Community Players and bid on some great items.
Cost: $8 in advance, $10 at the door, plus whatever you spend on the auction

A Concert to Benefit the Market Street Mission
When/Where: Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Morris Plains.
Why Go: A good cause and plenty of performances: Skip Yingling and The PCMP Band, Jim DiPaolo and Monica Trogani, Market Street Mission Singers and more. 
Cost: Monetary Donations for the Market Street Mission will be accepted at the door to offset damage from Hurricane Irene.

'Weird Al' Yankovic 'Alpocalypse Tour'
When/Where: Friday at 8 p.m. at Mayo Performing Arts Center, Morristown
Why Go: Because, hey, it's 'Weird Al.' You need more of a reason? It's family-friendly fun for all.
Cost: $37-$67

Saturday Morning Road Ride From Marty's
When/Where: Saturday at 8 a.m. from , Morristown
Why Go: Because you're an avid cyclist that can keep up with some hearty legs and some heavy hills.
Cost: Free


When/Where: 
Gates open at 8 a.m., first race at 1 p.m. at Moorland Farms off Route 202 in Far Hills on Saturday.
Why Go:
It's the social event of the season,and it benefits Somerset Medical Center's Steeplechase Cancer Center.
Cost: $50 for one ticket before race day, $100 at gate, other information online or by calling 908-685-2929. Also buy tickets or parking spot from area merchants.


When/Where: Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at , 903 S. Beverwyck Road
Why Go: To buy gently used jewelry, books, toys and gift items while checking out a silent auction featuring themed baskets.
Cost: Bring your wallet. 

When/Where: Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Camp Jefferson
Why Go: Hay rides, activities for kids, pumpkin picking and a roller derby performance.
Cost: No admission, but cost for refreshments

When/Where: Saturday from 5–7 p.m. at , Morris Plains.
Why Go: Specialty German food and beverages, pumpkin patch, crafts and movies for the kids.
Cost: $20 for adults, $10 for kids 10 and over, children under 10 are free.

Texas Hold'em Tournament
When/Where: Saturday at 6 p.m. at , Morris Plains.
Why Go: The tournament benefits St. Virgil Academy and the Morris County Junior School. There are prizes too!
Cost: $100 buy-in.

Witch Hazel Hunt
When/Where: 
Sunday at 1 p.m. at Pyramid Mountain, 472A Boonton Ave., Boonton
Why Go: 
To learn about the unique witch hazel shrub flower and look at fall foliage while you hike.
Cost: 
Free


When/Where: Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Brick Academy, 15 W. Oak St., Basking Ridge.
Why Go:  presents the intriguing history that still may be among us.
Price: Free
