Classic Cartoons, Snowshoe Hike and Cook like a Colonial

Some indoor and outdoor fun for the tail-end of einter.

Winter's almost over. But alas, it's still here.  Time to take advantage of a snow shoe hike at Pyramid Mountain or retreat indoors with some old cartoons and a good story.

Classic Cartoons
Where/When: At the  in Morris Township beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26.
Why Go: Because children tend to like cartoons -- and if they’re classic enough, parents might remember them too.
Pricing: Free with museum admission.

Colonial Cooking Contest
Where/When: At the  in Madison on Saturday, Feb 26 at 10 a.m.
Why Go: If you registered by the Friday, Feb. 18 deadline, then you can participate in the Children’s and Family division that begins at 10 a.m. Families with children 12 or younger will research a historic recipe from early America and cook it for the museum’s second annual colonial cooking contest. 
Pricing: $5 to register; regular museum admission for everyone else

Story Times at the County Library
Where/When: Preschool story time will run from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24 at the Morris County Library in Whippany. Open story time for babies 6 months to 2 years old will run from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 25.
Why Go: Because your child loves stories, songs and finger plays, or because you want to get your child hooked on books early. 
Pricing: Free

Story Times at Barnes & Noble
Where/When: Barnes & Noble in Morris Plains. “All About Space Storytime” begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24 and a “Storytime and Visit with Clifford” begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27.
Why Go: Because whether your children are interested in space or love the character “Clifford,” this could be a fun and education event.
Pricing: Free

Where/When: From noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the  in Morris Township.
Why Go: Because children ages 5 or older can learn about fingerprints by studying their own.
Pricing: Free for members, $3 per child plus museum admission for non-members.

“Rapunzel - A Brush with Fate!”
Where/When: At 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Pax Amicus Castle Theatre in Budd Lake on Saturday, Feb. 26.
Why Go: Because “Rapunzel” is a classic. You probably enjoyed it when you were a child, so why wouldn’t your children enjoy it too? For more information, see the Pax Amicus website.
