Hills of Troy Park is a Hidden Jewel

Discover a wonderful playground and park in the neighborhood behind Cerbo's on Route 202.

Now that our winter hibernation is over, columnist will spotlight nearby playgrounds and places to play in a new feature called “Get Out & Play.”

Each week we will showcase playgrounds and parks you can explore with your family. Besides writing for Patch, Lamperti is the publisher of The Playground Guide and co-owner of NJ Playgrounds  both of which provide information on hundreds of playgrounds and fun places to play.

Our first spotlight is on Hills of Troy Park.

To get there, head West on Route 202/Littleton Road in Parsippany toward Morris Plains, make a right on Spartan Avenue just after you pass . Take Spartan to the end. Turn left on Homer Street and Hills of Troy Park will be on your left.

There’s no parking lot, but there’s plenty of street-side parking right in front of the entrance to this nicely manicured and quiet playground and park. You can bring bikes or rollerblades and enjoy the paved path that encircles the playground and ball fields. Or, bring a basketball for a game of hoops.

Two separate playgrounds offer equipment for toddlers (2- to 5-year-olds) and older kids. You can find one of the few remaining merry-go-rounds at this park and plenty of places for a great game of hide-and-seek. Benches around the perimeter of each playground provide a spot to rest and keep a watchful eye on the little ones.

Prepare ahead of time because there are no bathrooms at this park and no porta-johns either. The nearest restroom is at Cerbo’s or the at the corner of Parsippany Road and Littleton/202.
