Holiday Food Drive Shows Stickley Museum's Spirit

The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms is getting into the spirit of giving for Hanukkah and Christmas. The historic site is hosting a holiday food drive to benefit the Interfaith Food Pantry. The food drive will continue through Wednesday, Dec. 19.

The Interfaith Food Pantry, a non-denominational, nonprofit organization established in 1994, provides supplemental food assistance to low-income working families, fixed-income or housebound senior citizens, the disabled, and unemployed people who are residents of Morris County. The need for assistance is particularly great this year because of the number of families affected by Superstorm Sandy.

Heather Stivison, the museum's executive director, told Patch that the facility is the perfect place for a holiday-themed giving effort.

"The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms serves as both a cultural resource and a community resource," Stivison said. "We are especially busy at this time of year and it is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the good things in our own lives and the needs of others."

She added that the winter holiday season is also a great time to visit Craftsman Farms.

"I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Log House lovelier than it does now with this year’s combination of holiday décor and the temporary costume exhibition," she said. "And with the higher attendance we are able to draw attention to the needs of our neighbors and make a difference in the lives of people in our community who need our help."

Stivison said the museum is collecting donations of nonperishable food items such as canned fruits, vegetables, meats/fish, and soups; rice, dried pasta, and beans; boxed meals and side dishes; peanut butter and jelly; fruit juices and powdered milk; hot and cold cereals; laundry detergent; baby food, formula and diapers.

Donations are being accepted at the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms, at the intersection of Manor Lane and Route 10 West in Morris Plains, from 11 a.m. -5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.
