Irene: PSE&G Reports More Than 100K Without Power As Storm Moves Northward

Utility spokesperson says restoration may take as much as a week.

As Irene strengthens and moves further north along the East Coast, the Public Service Electric and Gas Company reports that about 109,000 of its New Jersey customers are without electricity. Company spokesperson Karen Johnson said PSE&G estimates that getting the lights back on for all of those affected could take several days—and perhaps a week.

Extra personnel and supplies are on hand to assure that storm-related emergencies are handled safely and promptly, according to Johnson, but power restoration cannot begin until winds subside and allow technicians to work on overhead electric lines safely.

If you are one of the affected customers, report the outage to PSE&G AT 800-436-PSEG. Use that number as well to report the location of a downed wire or other visible equipment damage. If you do see a downed wire, PSE&G warns you to stay away from it for your own safety.
