These are just a few of the characteristics Mt. Tabor Elementary School fifth grader Hannah Ververs has demonstrated as a clarinet player to qualify her as the first recipient of “The Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Mt. Tabor Summer Music School Scholarship.”

The scholarship was established in honor of the retirement this year of Mrs. Debra Taylor, who spent the last 32 years teaching instrumental music teacher in the Parsippany district. The scholarship is also sponsored by Mrs. Taylor’s husband, Alex, a former high school band director at PHHS, in memory of their former band director Donald L. Marrs, who passed away last month.   The scholarship is also awarded to a qualified student at Eastlake Elementary School, where Taylor taught as well.

“Hannah Ververs was chosen for this scholarship for her high interest level during weekly lessons to always learn more.  She worked on difficult music on her own and came to class having learned material that other students struggled with," said Tayor.  "She is an enthusiastic learner with a great deal of talent and ability reading music and playing the clarinet.”

When Hannah is not practicing her clarinet, you can find her on the soccer and softball fields, participating in Girl Scout activities or enjoying a good book.

Hannah will attend the Mount Tabor Music Camp in July at Brooklawn Middle School.   She plans to continue playing the clarinet when she starts middle school in September.
