New Councilman, MOMS Club Makes a Difference This Week

The Woman's Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills is proclaiming Nov. 19  Make a Difference Monday. On this Monday, the service group is sponsoring a fundraiser to benefit Family Promise. To take part, head to Gourmet Cafe after 11 a.m.: A percentage of each meal purchased that day will go to the organization, which helps homeless and low income families achieve sustainable independence.  For more information on the MOMS Club, call Lora at 973-856-4433.

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Planning Board deals with building issues related to the town's master plan at its monthly workshop meeting Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 1001 Parsippany Blvd. Among the items expected to be discussed: controversial plans to build a new Whole Foods Market in the Waterview area of Route 46.

The Parsippany Township Council gets a new member this week. The body's agenda meeting for November takes place Tuesday at Town Hall at 7:30 p.m., and Councilman-Elect Jonathan Nelson will be sworn in by state Sen. and former Gov. Richard Codey. The public is invited to attend. 

Neighbors-Helping-Neighbors, a free peer-led volunteer support group for people actively looking for work meets Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. at the  at 68 Nokomis Ave. in Hiawatha.

PSGMC peer support group for job seekers meets Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Parsippany-Troy Hills Free Public Library at 449 Halsey Road to hear guest speakers well-versed in all facets of career search and development.

American Legion Post 249 is getting into the holiday spirit. The veterans' group kicks off the holiday giving season by teaming up with the U.S. Marine Corps for the annual Toys for Tots gift drive. Toy donations will be accepted daily from 3-7 p.m. through Dec. 9 at the post, 91 N. Beverwyck Road. For more info, call 973-335-9266.

Rock out with the legendary Ian Hunter, performing with the Rant Band, as part of the At the Tabernacle concert series at 31 Simpson Ave in Mt. Tabor. The show starts Friday at 7:30 p.m. with opener Willie Nile. Tickets are $55 per person.

Need a change in your calisthenics regimen? Try Masala Bhangra Fitness. The weekly classes teach an exercise dance routine that mixes the high-energy folk dance of Bhangra (Indian dance) with Bollywood moves. Mmm, pancakes. You'll find flapjacks galore at the Lake Parsippany Ladies Auxiliary 10th Annual Pancake Breakfast. The event takes place Sunday from 7:30 a.m.-noon at the District 3 firehouse at 255 Halsey Road. The price of a breakfast is just $4—and proceeds benefit the lifesaving work of the Lake Parsippany Volunteer Fire Department.

In Parsippany, that takes two forms: The Crossroads Divorce Support Group, a free gathering for divorced men and women of any faith that offers special events, community and healing, is presented at St. Peter the Apostle Church Sunday at 7 p.m. at 179 Baldwin Road. The other group, also offered Sunday at 7 p.m., is called Puzzle Pieces - A Divorced/Separated Support Group. This one is secular and has a fee—just a dollar—and takes place at the Parsippany Police Athletic League Center at 33 Baldwin Road.
