'Star Trek' Voyage Arrives in Parsippany

Creation Entertainment holds its 45th anniversary convention at Hilton.

Creation Entertainment celebrated its 45th annual Star Trek Convention this weekend at the Grand Ballroom. The three-day event was hosted by Adam Malin and Richard Arnold.

About 800 fans of the long-time sci-fi series participated trivia contests, costume contests, photo ops, autographs, a cocktail party, a cabaret performance and a variety of vendors at the convention—selling "Star Trek" memorabilia and rare collectibles.

Creation Entertainment is the largest organization of the world's leading conventions for fans of genre television and film. Along with "Star Trek," Creation also has held conventions for shows like "Twilight," "Xena," "Supernatural" and "Stargate."

Although Arnold, consultant to Creation Entertainment, admits organizing the events are getting costlier, they are still in great demand by fans everywhere.

"It's getting harder to put on the events," Arnold said, "but there's still a lot of fans who want to come to them, so they [Creation] keep trying to organize them."

This year, Creation arranged to broadcast four panels live over the Internet to stream nationwide for the first time.

The event featured more than 70 special guests, including "Star Trek's" own original castmembers, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Sir Patrick Stewart, David Warner and John Cho. Guests with backstage VIP passes were able to meet the stars.
