Tabor Idol Rocks Out, Raises Spirits and Funds

Second annual event benefits the Children's Day Celebration.

Mt. Tabor residents applauded and cheered thunderously as each performer took a bow on the stages of the Tabernacle Saturday night.

About 100 gathered for the second annual Tabor Idol show on Saturday evening. The night was filled with music—both renditions and original pieces—by volunteered local musicians of all ages. The show was organized to raise funds for Mt. Tabor’s annual Children’s Day Celebration—the township's weekly festival—in August.

The founders of Tabor Idol, James Andersen and Tom Wayland, decided this fundraiser—among many others—would be a good way to offset the costs of the festival, in order to accommodate for food vendors, pony rides, entertainment, rentals and other outside entities.

Last year, the show raised nearly $500 in donations. This year, the turnout was just as successful.

“This is one of many fundraisers that tap into the talent that we have in this town,” Anderson said.

Altogether, the night’s set included 16 performances by Jules & the J-Boys; The Love Family; Hanna Dowling and Kimberly Love; Tom Wayland; Monica Allegre; Guillam Allegre; The Heshers; Juliette Uddin; Lyla Epic and Nykki Awesome; Miss P; Lyla Epic, Rachel Fantastic and Vionne Amazing; Hannah, Oliver and Bob Dowling; Rob Miscovic; and BBT (including Anderson and Wayland).

The performers of various age groups reflected an equally diverse range of song choices, including popular contemporary hits by pop artist Rihanna to classic oldies by The Beatles.

The show concluded with an energetic number as BBT performed their take on Green Day’s “American Idiot," getting parents and children out of their seats to dance along.

“It’s a lot of fun, and we hope to run it [the event] every year,” Wayland said.
