The Caldwell Farmers’ Market begins its fourth season on Friday, June 29 and will run every Friday from 12-6 through October. The market will again be held in the municipal parking lot, behind Caldwell Cinema (317 Bloomfield Avenue), with access from Smull Avenue or Personette Street. Since it’s inception, the Caldwell Farmer’ Market has been organized and managed by Project Main Street volunteers and funded through money raised by the nonprofit organization.

This year’s market focus will be on fresh, naturally raised local produce and meats and specialty foods from both new and returning farmers and vendors

Madura Farms, a 300 acre family farm, employs all natural farming methods and has developed an extensive following through markets across the tri-state area, including the Union Square Green Market. Owners John D. and Kristie Madura pride themselves on their extensive variety of uncommon cultivated and foraged mushrooms, including varieties such as King Oyster, Enoki, Shiitake, Lions Mane, Maitake, Portabella, Chanterelle, and Morels. The couple also raises a variety of sprouts, herbs, specialty salad greens, berries and vegetables.

Sprout Food and Farms, who will be joining the market in July, specialized in hydroponic farming. This environmentally sound method uses less water, requires no pesticides or chemical fertilizers, and releases no nutrition pollution into the environment. In addition to hydroponic vegetables and micro greens, Sprout will offer raw milk cheeses and raw honey.

Roaming Acres Farm is a Sussex County family farm raising ostrich and buffalo using sustainable farming methods that are good for the animals, consumers, and the environment. Livestock are fed a vegetarian diet using all natural ingredients with no hormones or antibiotics. Ostrich meat has less cholesterol, fewer calories, more protein and less than half the fat of chicken. The buffalo are free range and grass fed.

Snoep Winkel Farm, a returning favorite, is a small family farm that practices traditional farming and grazing methods, never using hormones, steroids or antibiotics.  Snoep Winkel offers New Jersey grass-fed beef, lamb, pork, chicken and eggs. Whether raising a chicken or steer, Snoep Winkel believes that the quality of the animal’s lives is reflected in the quality of the food.

Iona Farms, a fourth generation family farm, has been a favorite at the Caldwell Farmers’ Market for four years. They offer a large variety of Jersey Fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs. Iona also has a beautiful selection of live plants and seasonal specialty items.

Schaefer Farms, a new addition to the Caldwell Farmers’ Market, is a fourth generation New Jersey family farm that grows over 50 varieties of heirloom tomatoes, raises 200 breeds of chickens for their eggs, and a large assortment of seasonal vegetables. The Schaefer family also makes 100 scents of soy candles and offers beautiful perennial and annual plants for sun and shade.

Jaker’s Pickles will be back at the market again, offering Well Pickles, Half Sour Pickles, New York Dills, New York Garlic Sours, and Hot & Spicy Dill, sold by the gallon, quart, pint, or pickle-on-a-stick.  Jaker’s Pickles is also famous for his sauerkraut, New Jersey green tomatoes, and stuffed olives

Gourmet Nuts & Dried Fruit will also be retuning with an amazing variety of nuts, dried fruits, dried mixes and brittles.

Other guest farmers and vendors will join the market throughout the season.

The Caldwell Farmers’ Market will also feature live music, local chef demonstrations, guest speakers and children’s activities. The Caldwell Police Department will be partnering with Project Main Street this year to bring community safety programs to the market. The West Essex Master Gardeners will be on-site the first four weeks of the market to answer all of your gardening questions. Caldwell merchants and nonprofit community organizations are welcome to participate.
