Two Kids Foundation 10th Annual Charity Car Show

The 10th annual Two Kids Foundation Charity Car Show will this year include a moment of silence in honor of the September 11, 2001 attacks, when it brings together classic and custom car owners and the community to raise money for families of pediatric cancer patients on its new date, Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011.

Following weather-related postponements for the car show’s original and rain date, the car show was rescheduled for Sept. 11 at the Birchwood Manor in Whippany. A moment of silence will be held at noon at the car show.

“While the weather has not been cooperative, the Birchwood Manor has been gracious enough to extend to us a third opportunity to help the families of pediatric cancer patients,” said foundation executive director Woody DeTrolio. “We are looking forward to it being an opportunity in which we can recognize the significance of that day and come together in the spirit of unity to help those in need in our communities.”

All vehicles are welcome – cars, trucks, motorcycles and military. Sponsored trophies will be given for entries 25 years and older. Pinstriping by Alan Johnson will be available. In addition to classic antique vehicles, muscle cars and sports cars, entered by owners from throughout New Jersey and the region, the show will also feature specialty cars such as the Batmobile (from the 1960s TV series), and the Scooby Doo Van.

Fans of TV’s “The Munsters,” will be able to find plenty to offer at this year’s car show, with an appearance and autograph signing by actor Butch Patrick, best known for his role of “Eddie Munster,” on the classic television series, as well as the famed, “Drag-U-La,” custom hot rod driven in the series.

Atlantic Health System’s Goryeb Children’s Hospital will again sponsor the car show, joined by Wigder Chevrolet and Warnock Automotive Group. Each year, the Valerie Fund Children’s Center at Goryeb Children’s Hospital, which treats children with cancer and blood-related diseases, helps the Two Kids Foundation find pediatric patients whose families are in need of assistance to benefit from the event.

The event, as well as an annual dinner dance held in the fall, has allowed the Two Kids Foundation to assist numerous families since the group’s creation a decade ago. The foundation was inspired by the community support for the DeTrolio’s son, who was diagnosed with leukemia at age 17, as well as his son’s fascination with classic cars.

“We’re so happy with the enthusiasm that the event has been shown year after year, from the car owners to the spectators and families who come out to see them, to all of the volunteers and sponsors who make the show happen,” DeTrolio said. “Their support over the last decade has helped us create a legacy of kindness that will be remembered by so many families. We look forward to continuing this legacy for many years to come.”

Radio personalities and the street team from WDHA 105.5 FM, along with live musical performances and a DJ will be featured at the event, as well as fun activities and games for kids.
