Library Friends' Fundraiser, Making Strides to Fight Breast Cancer And More This Week

It's time for the Friends of the Parsippany Library's fall fundraiser: On Monday, if you have lunch or dinner at the Gourmet Cafe, owner/chef Matt Pierone will donate 10 percent of your meal's cost to the organization. If you are living with a disability or a caregiver for someone with a disability, this event is for you: The United Way Caregivers Coalition and the Morris County Department of Human Services present a Disabilities Forum Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the lower level conference room of the county human services building at 340 W. The Parsippany-Troy Hills Planning Board deals with building issues related to the town's master plan at its monthly workshop meeting Monday at 7:30 pm at Town Hall, 1001 Parsippany Blvd.

Tuesday is the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 6 general election. To give every potential voter as much time as possible to register, the municipal clerk's office offers extended hours: The office will remain open until 9 p.m.

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Council holds its regular business meeting Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall. Among the items included on the agenda is the second reading and final vote on an ordinance that will release FEMA funds to flood survivors seeking to sell their severely damaged homes to the government, which will raze the buildings and return the land to open space.

PSGMC peer support group for job seekers meets Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Parsippany-Troy Hills Free Public Library at 449 Halsey Road to hear guest speakers well-versed in all facets of career search and development.

The controversial question of whether to allow the construction of a Krishna temple on Baldwin Road is expected to arise again before the Parsippany Zoning Board of Adjustment. The body meets Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

Flu season is tough for everyone, but especially for seniors. With that in mind, the township presents a Flu and Pneumonia Clinic at the Parsippany Community Center. The health event is for Parsippany residents who are age 65 or older. Immunizations for flu and pneumonia will be available with the caveat that only a limited amount of the influenza vaccine is available. The pneumonia vaccine is available only to seniors who have never been vaccinated for pneumonia. The cost is $10 for flu shots, $15 for pneumonnia vaccine, and if you have Medicare B (bring your card), there is no charge. Parsippany's United Methodist Church presents a Fall Ham Dinner Saturday at 4 p.m. The event is an all-you-can-eat buffet supper featuring mashed potatoes, cole slaw, corn, green beans, rolls and butter and, of course, ham. The cost is $14 for adults, $11 for seniors and $6 for children under 11. The event is at the church, 903 S. Beverwyck Road.

Psycho 78s Roller Derby, the state's one and only renegade-rules roller derby team, plays out its grudge rematch with South Jersey. This rain or shine co-ed battle on wheels will be one for the ages, say organizers. Catch the action Saturday at 5 p.m. at Parsippany Presbyterian Church, 1675 Route 46. Tickets are $10 at the door, and all admission and food vendor sales are donated directly to Disaster Relief Funding. Be sure to dress up and bring a sign for your favorite skater—prizes will be awarded for best outfit and sign.

The Crossroads Divorce Support Group, a free gathering for divorced men and women of any faith that offers special events, community and healing, is presented at St. Peter the Apostle Church Sunday at 7 p.m. at 179 Baldwin Road. The other group, also offered Sunday at 7 p.m., is called Puzzle Pieces - A Divorced/Separated Support Group. This one is secular and has a fee—just a dollar—and takes place at the Parsippany Police Athletic League Center at 33 Baldwin Road.
