FunnyBooks Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Lake Hiawatha comic book shop rings in two decades with a sale and a visit from a municipal Jedi master.

The purveyor of all things Batman, Star Wars and Archie Andrews marked the milestone with a sale that filled the tiny shop at 98 N. Beverwyck Road with customers. Owner Steve Conte also held what he called a "re-ribbon cutting" that featured Mayor James Barberio and Parsippany Area Chamber of Commerce President Robert Peluso.

"It's great to see a 20-year-old business in our area growing," Peluso said, "and when you're ready to expand, we will be there to support you."

Conte said he will hold a 20th anniversary party in October.

Mayor Barberio congratulated Conte on FunnyBooks' longevity and success, but was distracted by a collectible Star Wars light saber.

"This might be a good thing to use to get people to vote for me," he joked in his best Darth Vader voice.
