UPDATE: Garland Jeffreys Concert Now at Towne Tavern

March 25 acoustic house concert, nixed by township, gets a new location, allowing the spirit of rock to overcome in Parsippany.

Local entertainer Brett Bickley's plan to bring live music to Parsippany is back on: The featuring acclaimed performer Garland Jeffreys and New Jersey's own Debra Devi, originally planned to be an acoustic-music house concert, will now take place at the in Lake Hiawatha.

Parsippany homeowner and resident Brett Bickley, who is putting on the event through his small firm King Rhino Music learned last week that despite what he had been told previously by the town's Zoning Department, Parsippany police and officials would not approve of his holding the concert at his home. This came despite Bickley's move to restrict the number of tickets and to avoid amplification in an effort to avoid problems with his Lake Hiawatha neighbors.

Shortly after Bickley heard the bad news, he received a call from Towne Tavern owner Gene Mount. The two talked and came to an agreement that keeps the show alive and will lead to lower ticket prices.

"We had nearly sold out with the tickets at $25," said Bickley. "Now they will only be $20 and we'll be able to include a lot more people to see the great Garland Jeffreys perform. And dinner and drinks will be available too. This is actually going to be an even better event."

Bickley said his spirits have been renewed by the Towne Tavern's involvement.
