Parsippany Man Starts Jewelry Business Online

Mark Mound makes personal gem collection available to public in the form of custom, homemade jewelry.

Parsippany resident Mark Mound has put his collection of gemstones to good use: He's started a brand new business.

As of January, Mound is the proud owner of Mark Oliver Gems, an online shop that markets gemstone jewelry he creates at home.

Named after himself, and his kitten, Oliver, the store, which resides on the server for Etsy.com, offers a variety of common and rare gemstone jewelry set in sterling silver.

“I have been collecting all different types of gemstones for many years," Mound said. "Gemstones exhibit some of the truest beauty that this world has to offer, and it has always been a dream of mine to create jewelry out of the beautiful pieces in my collection.

"It’s really exciting to see it come to life!”

So far the proprietor says the jewelry shop has been successful thanks to word of mouth.

Mound crafts earrings, pendants, necklaces and rings at this point, but he has plans to expand the line in the future. He said he is also considering creating his own settings, so that he can make pieces that are even more unique
.
“I didn’t want to do too much, too soon, but now that word is getting around that I’m making jewelry, people are coming out of the woodwork requesting custom pieces,” he said. “I’m happily surprised at how it’s taking off.”

The Mark Oliver Gems website is the place to see the brilliance of his creations. The craftsman said visitors will find the best quality jewelry with only the highest grade gemstones, adding that he can customize anything and take requests for any stone.
